Freshly ground coffee means grinding fresh beans right before brewing. At home, you can choose between a manual grinder or an electric grinder. However, it's important to note that the grind size for manual coffee is generally coarser than that used for machine-made coffee.

When you start drinking specialty coffee, you'll learn some golden rules. One of these rules is that you should always use freshly ground coffee, as pre-ground coffee is not fresh. But is this really true? Why shouldn't we choose pre-ground coffee? Why do we need to grind coffee fresh?

Advantages of Pre-Ground Coffee:

🔆 If you don't have high-quality grinding equipment, it's better to use pre-ground coffee. Your local roaster or coffee shop will typically have a high-quality grinder. When you buy coffee beans, consider having them ground for you.

🔆 If you buy small quantities of coffee beans and store the pre-ground coffee properly, you can enjoy better coffee than what you might grind yourself with inferior equipment.

🔆 We can conduct experiments comparing coffee ground a week ago with freshly ground beans from a cheap blade grinder, and you'll find that pre-ground coffee is better than blade-ground coffee.

🔆 With proper storage methods, pre-ground coffee isn't necessarily worse than freshly ground coffee—it might even be better.

🔆 The rule that freshly ground coffee is better than pre-ground coffee may be established, but it assumes both grinding methods are equal. If you don't have a good grinder, you're better off having the barista at a coffee shop grind it for you.

Coffee—noble and romantic atmosphere, rich aroma, always fascinating and deeply captivating.
