The Birth of AeroPress Coffee
The AeroPress was invented by Alan Adler, a mechanical engineering lecturer who holds over forty patents in the United States and other countries. He is also a lecturer at Stanford University, an electrical engineer, amateur physicist, and toy enthusiast. Dissatisfied with the coffee brewed at home, he set out to find a new brewing method. He identified factors that affect coffee taste - time, temperature, coffee grinding, and others - and developed a simple device to coordinate these factors. Thus, AeroPress coffee was born!
AeroPress Principles and Usage
The principle and usage method of AeroPress coffee are very simple: a hard plastic tube, a filter cap, and a rubber sealing plug. The basic kit also includes a stirrer, a spoon, and filter papers sufficient for one year of use; additionally, there is a funnel to pour AeroPress coffee bean powder into the plastic tube.
Overall, its structure is similar to a syringe. During use, ground coffee and hot water are placed inside its "barrel," and then the plunger is pressed down, allowing coffee to pass through the filter paper into the container. It combines the immersion extraction method of French press, the paper filter of drip coffee (hand-poured), and the rapid, pressurized extraction principle of espresso.
The brewed coffee combines the richness of espresso, the purity of drip coffee, and the smoothness of French press. By changing the size of coffee grind particles and pressing speed, you can brew different flavors according to your preferences.
Unlike drip coffee machines, despite a short immersion time, it can fully immerse coffee particles and applies gentle, soothing pressure during extraction; it borrows from French press principles, but coffee liquid is pressed out from the bottom of the device through filter paper, uses finer coffee particles than required by French press, has shorter coffee-water contact time but greater pressure, ensuring the pressed coffee beverage has richer and smoother taste without any bitterness.
In addition to being fast, convenient, and effective, its cleaning and maintenance method is surprisingly simple - the cleaning time after use takes only a few seconds. It also has the advantages of being compact, lightweight, and not easily damaged, making it quite suitable as a coffee brewing device for outdoor use.
FrontStreet Coffee's AeroPress Brewing Steps:
- Place the AeroPress-specific filter paper into the filter cap, wet the filter paper to better fit the cap;
- Install the filter cap onto the filter cylinder, then stand it upright on a sturdy cup;
- Pour two AeroPress-specific scoops of finely ground FrontStreet Coffee's AeroPress coffee bean powder into the filter cylinder;
- Slowly pour 80°C hot water into the filter cylinder up to the 2 mark;
- Stir gently for about 10 seconds;
- Moisten the rubber sealing plug, insert the plunger into the filter cylinder, and press down gently for about 20 seconds;
- A double espresso is complete;
- Can be made into Americano (add hot water) or latte (add hot milk) according to personal preference.
The cleaning process of AeroPress coffee is also extremely simple - the filter paper can even be reused 5 to 6 times. Simply disassemble the AeroPress and rinse it directly under the faucet. The entire process takes only 20 seconds.
