About Debo Washing Station

The Debo Washing Station is owned by two partners, Masreshu Sima & Faisel Abdosh, and provides green bean processing services for approximately 750 small-scale coffee farmer families in the Debo village area. They directly purchase red cherries from local coffee farmers in Debo village. These small-scale farmers cultivate relatively small amounts of coffee, insufficient to process and sell the minimal finished products themselves, so they must either join local cooperatives or sell their harvested red cherries directly to private processing stations. Today, private processing stations are numerous in the Yirgacheffe region, operating alongside local cooperatives, with the latter being government-led initiatives.

Debo village is located within the Yirgacheffe Kochere region, a small village situated between Fishegenet and Chelelektu villages. These small-scale coffee farmers typically cultivate areas averaging less than 1 hectare, at average altitudes of approximately 1,900 to 2,100 meters, primarily growing local heirloom varieties. The Debo Washing Station produces an average of 10 containers annually, operating through several collection points, with each point purchasing approximately 100 bags of finished green beans. Local farmers typically cultivate fewer than 1,500 coffee trees, with each tree yielding 100-200 grams of finished green beans annually, representing the entire annual income for these small-scale farmers. This particular batch of Kochere Debo G1 is a washed lot.
