The Journey to El Retono Estate
Located in the mountains 50 kilometers southwest of the town of La Paz, lies a dry but cool remote region... As the elevation gradually rises, exceeding 1500 meters, we discovered many coffee farms with immense potential... And El Retono Estate, which just won the 2015 COE award, is situated deep within this mountainous region, also on a rather high mountain peak.
The elevation at the estate's entrance reaches 1720 meters. Several plots are located on relatively gentle mountain slopes, while behind the processing plant, there are two additional plots extending toward the mountain peak at an altitude of 2000 meters. Coffee trees are planted all the way up the steep slopes to 1800 meters!
When we visited, the estate was bustling with the harvesting and processing of the 2016 crop. The owner's family, harvesting workers, and the children of the harvesters were all busy working in the fields!
Even the ice cream vendor on his motorcycle came door-to-door, allowing the harvesters' children to enjoy treats, creating a lively and joyful atmosphere.
El Retono Estate secured third place in the Project Origin Best of Honduras Late Harvest 2016 competition organized by Sasa Sestic!
