Distinctive Characteristics of Yemen Mocha

Yemen Mocha has quite prominent flavor characteristics, with noticeable acidity that makes it easy to taste the cocoa flavor. The concentration of cocoa aroma emitted increases with the coffee concentration. Naturally, when making coffee, people add hot cocoa to it, creating a fancy mocha coffee that better allows one to experience the unique flavor of mocha.

Historical Origins

Mocha originally comes from Yemen, the world's first country to cultivate coffee on a large scale. To this day, Yemen's coffee farmers still retain the methods of planting and processing coffee that their ancestors used 500 years ago. Although most Central and South American countries now use mechanical equipment to process coffee beans with considerable efficiency, Yemeni people still use ancient methods like camels or donkeys to push stone mills to process coffee beans. They can be called living fossils of coffee processing history that are unique in the world. Therefore, unlike Blue Mountain coffee, which is vastly different, the mocha coffee we can taste today is almost identical to the mocha coffee drunk by people from nobility to commoners in Europe hundreds of years ago.

Although Yemen produces mocha, mocha is not a "native" of Yemen. Mocha's ancestors originally grew in Ethiopia. In 575 AD, these coffee beans crossed the Red Sea, arrived in Yemen on the opposite shore, took root there, and subsequently became famous throughout the world. In the early 17th century, Yemen's coffee was first exported to Europe through the ancient port of Mocha. People named this coffee after its export port, calling it "Mocha Coffee."

Global Impact of Yemen Mocha

Yemen Mocha holds an important position in the spread of coffee. It is the birthplace of coffee trade, selling coffee to all parts of the world through various channels. Mocha coffee has another name—Arabian coffee, which is the new name given to mocha by European Catholic countries. From then on, for at least 150 years, Yemen's mocha coffee was the only coffee variety exported to Europe. In fact, when mocha first entered Europe, local people were confused by it. Because the taste of mocha coffee was truly wonderful, the Vatican's religion never resisted coffee. They included it among Catholic beverages and blessed those who drank coffee. From then on, coffee began to be accepted by Europeans.

Although Ethiopia is the first country in the world where coffee appeared, it was Yemen that made these small beans known to the world and familiar to people of all countries. Therefore, coffee is an important pillar industry in Yemen and a spiritual symbol for the Yemeni people. On Yemen's national emblem, there is a coffee tree.

Today, mocha coffee is famous worldwide and known to everyone, but who understands that the busy port with numerous ships before the 18th century and today's mocha coffee would have such a wonderful connection.
