The Tambaya Factory belongs to the Rumukia Farmers' Cooperative Society Limited in Nyeri. The Rumukia Farmers' Cooperative Society Limited oversees eight sub-cooperative factories: Kagunyu Factory, Gatura Factory, Thunguri Factory, Maganjo Factory, Kiawamururu Factory, Tambaya Factory, Gaikundo Factory, and Ndia-ini Factory. These factories are renowned in the specialty coffee industry, with Tambaya, Thunguri, and Ndia-ini being among the most distinguished.

The Tambaya Factory featured in this article can be considered Rumukia's flagship facility. Not only do many renowned roasters compete to purchase its beans annually, but Sweet Maria's also features it with high ratings. Multiple super high scores of 94 and 95 points from Coffee Review have established its market position.

The Tambaya Factory is named after its location in Tambaya town, Nyeri region. It is situated approximately 80 kilometers in a straight line north-northeast from Kenya's capital Nairobi, about 130 kilometers by road, reachable in roughly two and a half hours. The factory's location is quite fascinating - after turning off the main road, the sun-drying beds stretch forward like a long winding snake. On the right side of the beds, where the terrain is higher, are the office, warehouse, and processing equipment in sequence.

Standing at the factory, which sits on higher ground, one's view extends along the main road all the way to Tambaya town, offering a complete panorama of the beautiful African Kenyan small town scenery - truly enjoyable! Friends can also glimpse some of its splendor from the photographs and aerial images we have published.

Due to its renowned reputation, the Tambaya Factory's green beans often command higher prices, and member small farmers benefit from higher incomes as a result. During our two visits, we found that both the cooperative staff present and the small farmers coming to deliver their harvests were cheerful and got along harmoniously - perhaps this is a fine example of the virtuous cycle in specialty coffee!
