2018 Guatemala El Injerto Estate EI06-01: Legendary Gesha
A renowned century-old coffee estate on par with Hacienda La Esmeralda! This Geisha variety also originates from La Esmeralda.
The variety was brought directly by the estate owner, Aguirre Sr., from the famous Hacienda La Esmeralda in Panama. Due to this historical connection, it is also known as Legendary Geisha.
The estate is situated in the stunning coffee region of Huehuetenango, featuring steep peaks and narrow valleys. It receives warm air currents from the neighboring lowland valleys of Mexico. This warm air heats the mountainsides, allowing coffee to grow at such high altitudes, which would typically be impossible at this northern latitude. El Injerto Estate has rapidly become a world legend for its coffee quality, winning numerous awards in Cup Of Excellence competitions, far more than any other estate worldwide.
They focus on every detail of the entire process, including coffee fruit flotation, fermentation, soaking, drying, proper storage, and their own processing facilities.
El Injerto Estate has always been a pioneer in specialty coffee in Central America. Approximately 50 years ago, it was one of the first estates to focus on single varieties and vertically integrated production of high-quality coffee. El Injerto Estate covers a total area of 720 hectares, mostly situated between 1,500 to 2,000 meters above sea level, growing coffee, fruits, basic food crops, and ornamental plants. The remaining hectares are preserved as thousand-year-old virgin forest, which gives the estate a special temperature and provides access to clean water directly from mountain springs. Additionally, this area creates a perfect habitat for wildlife, with the intention that coffee cultivation exists within an ecosystem that protects our natural environment. This batch was processed using the washed method, fully fermented in water for 24 hours, and finally dried on African raised beds.
