Malawi Misuku Peak Region Natural Geisha Flavor Profile? How to Brew?

Single Origin coffee from the 2000-meter highlands of northern Malawi, harvested only once a year. Coffee trees in this high-altitude region experience abundant sunshine, adequate rainfall, and cool temperatures that slow the coffee bean growth process. As a result, every coffee bean is round and full, with a sweet and bright flavor. Malawi is a small country in southeastern Africa and a landlocked country that doesn't border the sea. Most of its coffee is grown in the northern highlands, but production is not large. Although it doesn't border the sea, from the map you can see a very large lake to its northeast - that's Lake Malawi, which serves as the natural boundary between Malawi and neighboring countries. Compared to Kenya, Malawi coffee also has considerable sweetness and aroma, while its acidity profile shows a deeper, different style. All coffee grown in Malawi is Arabica, processed using the washed method, and is the country's ninth largest export product, accounting for only about 5% of total exports. Interestingly, although export quantities are very limited, its coffee production and marketing are handled by locally organized production and marketing companies responsible for processing and sales operations, rather than being government-controlled as in Kenya. Under this independent operation model, Malawi coffee quality has maintained a consistently high standard.

Casa Malawi Highland Coffee Beans

Casa Malawi Highland Coffee Beans are Arabica beans from the MISUKU region of East Africa's Malawi, grown at 2000 meters altitude in pesticide-free ecological environments with banana trees as the main shade trees. Bean selection is entirely manual, with a green bean rejection rate as high as 18%, making it a rare high-quality coffee bean worldwide. Production is limited, and most is sold to Europe. In Japan, Malawi coffee beans are positioned as top-tier specialty coffee beans.

Geography and Production

The Republic of Malawi is a landlocked country in southern East Africa, bordering Tanzania to the north, Zambia to the west, and Mozambique across Lake Malawi (Africa's third-largest lake) to the east. Malawi has a population of approximately 12.5 million. Malawi Geisha varieties are mainly grown in the high-altitude Misuku region. Located in southeastern Africa, Malawi is a landlocked country without access to the sea. From the northern to central eastern parts, there's a vast natural boundary of Lake Malawi that even extends to the border with Mozambique; the western neighbor is Zambia; Malawi's central and southern regions, from east to south all the way to west, border Mozambique. Malawi is also a member of the Eastern Africa Fine Coffees Association (EAFCA). Northern Malawi has 45 washing stations. Malawi coffee is grown in pesticide-free ecological environments with rare production, making it one of the world's few high-quality coffee beans. It won first place in the Specialty Coffee Association of Japan (SCAJ) cupping competition. The Eastern Africa Fine Coffees Association (EAFCA) sampled 13 coffee beans from 4 landlocked East African countries for testing. Casa Malawi drip bag coffee uses 100% original bean grinding. When consumed plain without sugar, it best presents the unique sweet and fruity aroma, elegant aftertaste without bitterness, making it worthy of careful tasting. At annual SCAA exhibitions and Europe's SCAE exhibitions, the Eastern Africa Fine Coffees Association sets up booths for promotion, gradually increasing its exposure.

FrontStreet Coffee Recommended Brewing:

Dripper: Hario V60

Water Temperature: 90°C

Grind Size: Fuji Royal R440 grind setting 3.5

Brewing Method: 1:15 water-to-coffee ratio, 15g coffee grounds. First pour 25g water for 25s bloom. Second pour to 120g, then stop pouring. Wait until the water level in the coffee bed drops to halfway before continuing to pour. Slowly pour until reaching 225g total water. Extraction time around 2:00.

Analysis: Using a three-stage brewing method to clearly distinguish the front, middle, and back-end flavors of the coffee. Because the V60 has many ribs and faster drainage, stopping the pour can help extend the extraction time.
