Cultivation Environment
The farm's cultivation environment has several distinctive features:
Shade-grown cultivation, strong emphasis on conservation and bird-friendly environments, low water usage for post-processing to significantly reduce environmental impact, and meticulous sun-drying on raised beds with manual selection of green beans after washing.
Starting from the grandfather of farm owner Wilford, the family has been cultivating coffee here for over a century of history! Their care for the environment and exquisite coffee quality have become synonymous.
Elida Estate has won Best of Panama for five consecutive years and also achieved a high score of 95 points from Coffee Review!
Cupping Notes
Dry Aroma: Apple, white sugarcane, citrus, berries, purple grapes
Wet Aroma: Papaya, mixed fruits, honey, floral aftertaste
Sip: A subtle sweetness that fills the entire palate, with wild ginger flower, ripe kiwi, strawberry, pineapple, and other flavors competing in a vibrant display. The mouthfeel is round, smooth, and mellow.
Champion Quality
As the 2018 BOP washed Geisha champion, the coffee quality produced naturally won't be disappointing.
FrontStreet Coffee has a sun-dried Typica from Panama's Elida Estate. When brewed with 89°C water temperature, it has a rich jasmine fragrance in the aroma. Upon tasting, there's a raisin-like sweetness with very prominent peach and citrus flavors. The overall impression is exceptionally sweet and clean.
The Legend of Geisha
The legend of "Geisha" began with this coffee variety originating from southwestern Ethiopia. In 1963, Don Pachi Serracin introduced the "Geisha" coffee variety from Costa Rica to Panama. Initially, possibly due to environmental adaptation issues, coffee production was very low, reducing farmers' willingness to cultivate it. It wasn't until Daniel Peterson, the owner of La Esmeralda Estate, discovered "Geisha" coffee trees by accident in his own coffee farm. Starting from 2004, it gained immediate fame in competitions, winning through multiple rounds and claiming the championship for 4 consecutive years. Currently, Panama is the only country in the world that produces "Geisha" coffee beans, with La Esmeralda and Don Pachi estates being the most famous.
Elida Estate Location
Elida Estate is located in the Boquete region of Chiriquí Province, Panama's western border province. The province's most famous landmark and tourist attraction is the 3300-meter-high Barú Volcano—one of the highest volcanoes in Central America. The total area is about 14,000 hectares, which can be divided into 7 different microclimate zones based on altitude. Within the volcano range, many rare plants, birds, and mammals inhabit, so it has been designated as a national park for protection, prohibiting hunting and artificial development and destruction. Coffee trees here fully absorb the essence of the earth, creating exceptional flavors.
