Blue Mountain coffee beans are premium beans cultivated within the legally designated growing areas of Jamaica, with their production process strictly supervised by the Jamaica Coffee Industry Board. High-quality Blue Mountain coffee beans are renowned for their balanced, mild flavor, captivating aroma, and non-bitter taste. Through decades of effort, Blue Mountain coffee has established an unshakable reputation and has become one of the world's most expensive and sought-after beans. Beyond being used for brewing coffee, Blue Mountain is also an important ingredient in Tia Maria coffee liqueur.
Blue Mountain is located in the eastern part of Jamaica island, approximately between the capital Kingston and Port Maria, with an altitude of up to 7,500 feet, making it one of the highest mountains in the Caribbean region. The climate is cool and foggy, with fertile soil, considered ideal conditions for growing coffee beans. However, only beans grown in the 3,000-5,500 feet altitude range can be called Jamaica Blue Mountain (the Mavis Bank we introduced this time is at 3,900-5,250 feet altitude). Some might ask: what about above 5,500 feet? Because areas above 5,500 feet in Jamaica are forest protection zones, coffee trees cannot be grown there. Beans below 3,000 feet altitude are commonly found in the market as Jamaica High Mountain, Jamaica Prime, or even Jamaica Low Mountain - typically these are Jamaican coffee beans produced outside the legally designated Blue Mountain areas.

The quality standard of 100% pure certified Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee is irreplaceable by any other coffee, as strict and precise regulations have created one of the world's most distinctive coffees. Grown at high altitudes in a precise geographical location and under specific conditions, these coffee beans earn Jamaica's certification as 100% pure Blue Mountain coffee beans. Due to limited growing space and limited production, combined with their unique flavor profile and characteristics, demand is extremely high. The caffeine content is low, approximately half or less than other varieties.
Why is Blue Mountain Coffee Dark Roasted?
This is because when Blue Mountain became popular, the concept of specialty coffee didn't exist yet. Coffee at that time focused primarily on rich body, and the greatest characteristic of Blue Mountain coffee is its balance and rich body. Therefore, the most suitable roast level for Blue Mountain coffee is dark roast, and the most authentic Blue Mountain is also dark roasted.
FrontStreet Coffee suggests using slightly lower water temperature when brewing Blue Mountain coffee - 86-88°C is sufficient. Using a KONO dripper can enhance its rich body. The initial taste is chocolate bittersweet with distinct caramel sweetness, accompanied by gentle, low acidity.
