Farm History:
This is a 56-hectare piece of land that was reforested with coniferous trees in 2000. Of the total area, 20 hectares are planted with coffee (the area consists of four plots, each with five hectares). The planted forest is used as shade for the coffee, and this is its fourth year of production. The establishment of this plantation originated from the desire to produce a coffee that could win first place in the Cup of Excellence. For this reason, a genetically improved Pacamara variety was chosen to start this farm, and only plants showing Maragogype dominance were planted.
Farm Location:
Chalatenango province, San Ignacio, under the jurisdiction of Santa Rosa district.
Work Practices:
Coffee-related activities and cultural practices, but aimed at achieving the highest quality, among which fertilization and harvesting can be particularly noted.
Welfare or Social Projects:
The farm is the most important source of work in the Santa Rosa area, leading many residents to start growing coffee, thus promoting employment in the region. Social activities are also held with people from surrounding farms, celebrating Christmas where all children receive toys, piñatas, and candies.
The plot at the highest point of the farm was selected to participate in the Cup of Excellence. Gourmet coffee is produced according to guidelines, with this plot being fertilized and harvested along with other farms. The milling process takes place at a nearby farm owned by the same company.
In the future, our goal is to continue working closely together in the current manner, with special attention to improving the fertilization plan and milling process, until our coffee quality becomes the standard for first place in the Cup of Excellence. This farm is part of the legacy of Jorge Raul Rivera's coffee knowledge (1938-2013). He was not only a professor at the University of El Salvador, where he taught coffee cultivation and processing for 10 years, but has been working in the region since 1978. He also pioneered the establishment of this crop in the northern part of the country (Chalatenango).
