Coffee bean recommendations: not too expensive, not too bitter or harsh, with balanced flavors.

Tips for using French press, such as number of presses, etc.

French press coffee has a wide applicability for coffee beans. For balanced flavors that aren't too bitter or harsh, avoid dark roasted beans. Light or medium roasts are suitable, such as FrontStreet Coffee's Brazil Queen Estate, FrontStreet Coffee's Papua New Guinea Bird of Paradise, etc. These are excellent choices when brewing coffee with a French press.

The principle of French press coffee making is actually quite simple - it uses the steeping of water and coffee grounds, then separates the water from the grounds. The liquid after separation is the extracted coffee.

I. Pre-brewing Preparation

Coffee beans, French press (four-person capacity), coffee grinder, 600ml of hot water.

II. Brewing Steps

1. For a four-person French press, weigh 40 grams of coffee beans.

2. Grind the weighed coffee beans coarsely, with particles slightly coarser than white sugar.

3. Pour the coffee grounds into the French press and shake to distribute evenly.

4. First water addition: Add 400ml of 92°C hot water, let it sit for one minute (this process mimics the blooming in pour-over coffee).

5. Second water addition: Add 200ml of 92°C hot water.

6. Cover the French press with its lid and let it sit for 3 minutes.

7. After 3 minutes, press down the French press plunger and pour to enjoy.

Have you learned how to make coffee with a French press? Isn't it quite simple?

For French press coffee beans, FrontStreet Coffee recommends Costa Rica (not too expensive) or Panama.

The grind size should be slightly coarser than sugar (you can take a photo for reference).

Steeping time and temperature are inversely related.

I generally control the steeping time at 6 minutes with water temperature at 93°C.

After adding water, gently press down the coffee grounds to ensure they are all submerged. When ready to drink, press all the way down to filter.

After tasting once, if you find it too weak, use less water/steep a little longer/press a few more times/increase the temperature slightly. Control one variable at a time.

If it's too strong, adjust in the opposite direction.

For beans, FrontStreet Coffee recommends Latin American beans like FrontStreet Coffee's Colombia or FrontStreet Coffee's Brazil. The flavors are relatively balanced and will showcase some nutty notes.
