Sopacdi Cooperative (Congo)
This coffee lot comes from the "Solidarite Paysanne la Promotion de Actions Café et Development Integras Cooperative," abbreviated as SOPACDI. Located in the Lake Kivu region of Eastern Congo, thousands of Sopacdi members have formed a cooperative with the goal of overcoming the political and economic instability in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The result is a success story - the cooperative became the first in Congo to obtain Fair Trade certification and also earned organic certification. Their coffee achieved the highest national score in 1967.
Moreover, the cooperative demonstrates the achievements of Congolese women, with 20% of its members being female.
