Gesha Village Coffee Farm, which consistently creates wonders each year, is owned by Adam Overton, a genuine American documentary filmmaker, and his wife Rachel Samuel, who is Ethiopian and a photographer. In 2007, the couple was commissioned to Ethiopia to shoot a documentary about coffee. As the filming progressed and their contact with the Ethiopian land and people deepened, their dream of establishing their own estate began to sprout. Everything took a breakthrough turn after they met Willem Boot. Even the estate location selection, variety selection, and processing methods are closely related to Willem Boot. To this day, Willem Boot still leads groups to visit annually and stays at the estate for coffee post-processing.

At Gesha Village Coffee Farm, three varieties are cultivated. The first variety is the Gori Gesha variety collected from the Gori original forest, accounting for 43.7% of the estate's planting area. The second variety is Illubabor from the Illubabor forest, accounting for about 20% of the estate's planting area. The last variety is the well-known Gesha 1931, which is closest to the current Gesha varieties grown in Panama in terms of plant morphology and flavor characteristics, accounting for about 37.3% of the estate's planting area.

For the 2018 harvest season, Gesha Village Coffee Farm implemented a new grading system, dividing all batches into four internal grades to further advance quality control.

1. Auction Grade (Highest Level)

This grade accounts for only 3.7% of the estate's annual production. In 2018, we once again co-hosted a Taiwan cupping tour with estate owner Rachel Samuel and consultant Willem Boot. The auction ended in June, with the highest batch once again setting a record at $105 per pound. The GVA 05 batch that we at Yuan Shi jointly secured with roasters from Taiwan and Hong Kong was also sold out before arrival by air freight.

2. Rarity Label (Second Grade)

This is also the batch we air-freighted to Taiwan this time. The Rarity Label accounts for only 5% of the estate's production and can almost be considered a work of the same level as the Auction batches. Given the differences in Eastern and Western taste preferences and the independent personalities that beans display during the ripening process, the performance of Rarity Label batches often makes me feel they surpass the Auction batches. They are a treasure trove for discovery and the preferred choice for competition contestants from various countries. At the WBC World Championship held in the Netherlands in 2018, the Australian and Japanese champions selected Rarity Label batches for their competition.

The other Red Label (Grower's Reserve) and Green Label (Single Terroir) will be shared next time. The two Rarity Label batches listed in this price list have outstanding flavors:

❖ Lot #44 Gori Gesha Variety, Shewa-Jibabu Block

Natural processing method

The dry aroma immediately reveals blueberry, floral, and peach fragrances. Upon entry, it blossoms in the mouth with sweet frangipani, rose, and blueberry, accompanied by wine-like aromas and grape juice, followed by peach, mango, and strawberry notes, finishing with orange peel and orange blossom aftertaste. The flavor is powerful, delicate and elegant, with a long-lasting aftertaste.

❖ Lot #94 1931 Gesha Variety, Surma Block

Natural processing method

When ground, it reveals delicate blueberry, orange blossom, and lemon peel aromas. Upon sipping, one can experience fresh bergamot, lemon, delicate and elegant orange blossom, and apricot notes, followed by jasmine, blueberry with rose undertones, and a smooth yogurt-like texture with delicate and elegant floral aromas.
