Blue Mountain Coffee

Blue Mountain Coffee is precious because it combines both excellent先天 genetic heritage and superior post-growing environmental conditions. From seed selection, cultivation, harvesting, processing and grading to packaging and export, Blue Mountain Coffee can be called the model student among coffees.

Blue Mountain Coffee is the finest coffee in the world. The Blue Mountains are located in eastern Jamaica. When the weather is clear, the sea reflects brilliant blue light onto the mountain peaks, giving them their name.

The highest peak of Blue Mountain reaches 2,256 meters, making it the highest peak in the Caribbean region and a famous tourist destination. Located in the coffee belt with fertile volcanic soil, fresh air without pollution, humid climate, and year-round fog and rain, these conditions have created the world-renowned Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee, as well as the world's most expensive coffee.

Blue Mountain Coffee possesses all the characteristics of fine coffee - not only is it rich and mellow in flavor, but because the sweetness, acidity, and bitterness are perfectly balanced, it has no bitter taste, only moderate and perfect acidity. It's typically enjoyed as single-origin, but due to its extremely limited production and incredibly high price, coffee with similar flavors is often used as substitute in the market.

The Secret of Blue Mountain Coffee

The "secret" behind Blue Mountain Coffee's pure flavor: all their coffee trees grow on rugged mountain slopes, making harvesting extremely difficult - only skilled local female workers can handle the task. Selecting perfectly ripe coffee beans during harvest is crucial, as underripe or overripe beans affect coffee quality. After harvesting, coffee beans must be hulled the same day, then fermented for 12-18 hours. Afterward, the beans undergo washing and sorting. The next step is drying, which must be done on concrete floors or thick blankets until the beans' moisture content drops to 12%-14%. They are then stored in dedicated warehouses. When needed, they are taken out for roasting and then ground into powder. These procedures must be strictly controlled, otherwise the coffee quality will be affected.

Shade trees planted around the coffee are also a major feature of Blue Mountain Coffee. Shade trees are typically banana trees or Jamaica's native Ackee fruit trees, which protect coffee trees from harsh sun exposure and help with soil and water conservation. Taking care of coffee trees requires considerable patience and attention - they must be pruned regularly, removing old trunks to encourage new growth, and constantly monitoring fruit development, removing any poorly developed ones to avoid wasting nutrients.

All Blue Mountain Coffee harvesting is done manually. Workers must traverse between bushes on steep slopes, picking ripe coffee cherries one by one. Since coffee cherries on the same tree mature at different rates, harvesting often requires dozens of rounds to collect all coffee, making the entire process extremely laborious.

After harvesting, the cherries must first undergo floating water selection, then be processed using the washed method to remove fruit skin and mucilage, revealing the coffee beans inside, which are sent to processing plants for centralized processing. During the coffee harvest season, the wet coffee beans after washing (called wet parchment) are spread across squares beside processing plants like grain drying, receiving sunlight blessings.

After the coffee beans are dried, they undergo strict manual selection and machine grading before being packaged for export. Blue Mountain Coffee's use of wooden barrel packaging instead of regular burlap bags is also a distinctive feature.

All exported Blue Mountain Coffee must undergo detailed inspection by the Jamaica Coffee Industry Board. Only coffee that passes the professional quality control personnel's Cupping Test can enter the world market.

Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee Grades

There are three grades of coffee from Jamaica's Blue Mountain region:

Blue Mountain Coffee

Jamaica High Mountain Supreme Coffee Beans

Jamaica Prime Coffee Beans

Among these, Blue Mountain Coffee and High Mountain Coffee each have two sub-grades. In order of quality from highest to lowest: Blue Mountain No. 1, Blue Mountain No. 2, High Mountain No. 1, High Mountain No. 2, Jamaica Prime Coffee.

Typically, only coffee grown between elevations of 457 to 1,524 meters can be called Blue Mountain Coffee.

Coffee grown between elevations of 274 to 457 meters is usually called Jamaica Prime Coffee Beans. In terms of price, Blue Mountain Coffee is several times more expensive than High Mountain Coffee.

FrontStreet Coffee's Blue Mountain Coffee comes from Jamaica's Clifton Farm, which has a very long history. The Blue Mountain region is a small area with only 6,000 hectares of planting area, so it's impossible for all coffee labeled "Blue Mountain" to be grown there. Today's Clifton Farm is the largest estate in this region. By international standards, it's still considered small-scale cultivation, with many estate owners being small landholders whose families have worked this land for two centuries.

Clifton Farm's coffee cultivation and processing area is situated at an average elevation of 4,300 feet (1,310.64 meters). Sufficient altitude, gentle afternoon clouds and mist surrounding the mountains for shade, adequate sunlight, and mineral-rich planting soil provide excellent growing conditions for coffee trees and extend the maturation period of coffee cherries.

Clifton's high altitude and long history, combined with unique processing methods, give Clifton coffee not only the characteristic roundness and smoothness of Blue Mountain No. 1, but also subtle floral notes and other rich flavors.

This is why Blue Mountain Coffee produced here commands over ten thousand per barrel! However, at FrontStreet Coffee, you can buy authentic Blue Mountain Coffee for just 158, offering excellent value for money.

To highlight the flavor profile of Blue Mountain Coffee, FrontStreet Coffee uses dark roasting. Recommended brewing parameters: KONO dripper/88°C/1:14 ratio/time 1 minute 50 seconds. The taste is rich and well-balanced, with chocolate flavors perfectly blended with gentle fruit acidity, and a persistent caramel sweetness in the finish.
