Kenya is a model country for producing excellent coffee. The high-altitude Arabica washed beans produced in Kenya are among the world's top coffee beans. Most coffee beans are uniformly graded and inspected by the Kenya Coffee Board and then sold at auctions. The Kenya Coffee Board is very strict about coffee research, development, and quality management. Through an excellent auction system, coffee bean prices are increased, indirectly helping the hardworking coffee farmers. Through education, farmers' cultivation techniques are continuously updated to produce better coffee. Kenyan coffee with blackberry fruit acidity is produced in small quantities. These coffee beans all originate from excellent coffee estates established in Kenya by foreign companies or excellent coffee estates acquired by Kenyan companies.
Coffee beans usually consist of two pea-shaped parts (commonly known as female beans). PB peaberries, on the other hand, grow in rice-shaped or oval forms (commonly known as male beans). Kenyan peaberries are a variant of Kenyan beans, selected by hand. They are the most distinctive, uniquely styled, extremely variable, and have the widest roasting range among all coffee PB peaberries, and are also the most familiar peaberries to friends.
Kenya, located in East Africa below the equator, grows high-quality Arabica coffee beans. The coffee beans are rich in cherry flavor, with slight acidity and a rich aroma, making them very popular among Europeans. Especially in the UK, Kenyan coffee has surpassed Costa Rican coffee to become one of the most popular coffees, and is also an essential bean in many coffee shops. The bean size is medium to large, with thick, round coffee beans that are rich in flavor and quality, with a thick and intense taste, moderate acidity, and a unique aroma. The grades are divided into seven levels according to the size of the coffee beans, and the taste quality is divided into six levels from top to bottom.
Nyeri is located in the high mountain area near Mount Kenya and is also an important specialty coffee producing region, with an average altitude of over 1500 meters. Nyeri City is located in the heart of Kenya and is the largest city in the central province. It has convenient transportation and relatively complete airport facilities. It is also one of the key attractions for tourists. Most importantly, many excellent coffees are produced in this region because Nyeri has sufficient altitude and is located east of the Aberdare Mountains (Aberdare Mountains, with a national park, which is a must-visit attraction for tourists to this area), and it is also the peninsula between Mount Kenya and this mountain. Due to the high terrain and fertile soil, Nyeri has become a key town in central Kenya's coffee region, and coffee-related industry facilities are also well-developed!
Kenya grows high-quality Arabica coffee beans. The coffee beans almost absorb the essence of the entire coffee cherry, with slight acidity and a rich aroma, making them very popular among Europeans. Especially in the UK, Kenyan coffee has surpassed Costa Rican coffee to become one of the most popular coffees.
Coffee industry professionals universally consider Kenyan coffee to be one of their favorite products, because Kenyan coffee contains every feeling we want from a good cup of coffee. It has a wonderful and satisfying aroma, balanced and pleasant acidity, uniform particles, and excellent fruit flavor.
Coffee entered Kenya in the 19th century, when Ethiopian coffee beverages were imported to Kenya via South Yemen. But it wasn't until the early 20th century that Bourbon coffee trees were introduced by the St. Austin Mission.
Most Kenyan coffee grows at altitudes of 1500-2100 meters and is harvested twice a year. To ensure only ripe berries are picked, people must patrol the forests about 7 times. Kenyan coffee is grown by small farmers. After harvesting coffee, they first send fresh coffee beans to cooperative washing stations, which send washed and dried coffee in "parchment coffee" state (coffee beans covered with endocarp) to cooperatives ("parchment coffee" is the final state before coffee beans are peeled). All coffee is collected together, and growers ask for average prices based on their actual quality. This trading method generally works well and is fair to both growers and consumers.
The Kenyan government takes the coffee industry extremely seriously. Here, cutting or destroying coffee trees is illegal. Buyers of Kenyan coffee are world-class premium coffee buyers, and no other country can continuously grow, produce, and sell coffee like Kenya. All coffee beans are first purchased by the Coffee Board of Kenya (CBK), where they are appraised, graded, and then sold at weekly auctions. During auctions, they are no longer graded separately. The Coffee Board of Kenya only acts as an agent, collecting coffee samples and distributing them to buyers so they can determine price and quality. The Nairobi auction is for private exporters, and the Coffee Board of Kenya pays growers prices below market value. The best coffee grade is Peaberry (PB), followed by AA++, AA+, AA, AB, etc., in descending order. Premium coffee is bright, delicious, and slightly winey.
