Since the 1920s, Arabica coffee grown in Rwanda has been renowned worldwide for its unique fruity sweetness and rich grassy aroma. In recent years, the Rwandan government has taken active measures to vigorously promote coffee production, establishing coffee production cooperatives across the country, providing technical guidance and financial support to farmers, enabling significant development in coffee production.
Rwanda has approximately 33,000 hectares of coffee plantations, with 500,000 people engaged in coffee cultivation. Possessing excellent natural conditions of high altitude and fertile volcanic soil, the country's exceptionally fertile soil and suitable climate contribute to plant growth. Coffee trees seem driven or forced to grow vigorously upward, yet perhaps because they grow too quickly, they cannot produce the finest coffee beans. The beautiful "Land of a Thousand Hills" Rwanda has a long and rich culture for growing highland coffee, primarily focusing on cultivating high-quality Arabica coffee. Rwanda is one of the few countries in the world that can fully enjoy the harmony between soil, altitude, and climate. In this unique growing environment, Rwanda's high-quality coffee possesses distinctive taste and aroma. The Bourbon coffee grown in Rwanda is one of the original varieties of Arabica coffee.
Rwanda Washed Method
In terms of washed Arabica coffee beans, Rwanda coffee is absolutely premium. In Africa, its coffee industry is remarkable because the country thrives primarily by producing the best possible coffee beans. Rwanda's coffee is gaining increasing recognition in the international market.
The mission of the Rwanda Coffee Association is to manage and supervise the operation of Rwanda's coffee industry from production to sales. The recently revised mission focuses on policy formulation and implementation, with greater emphasis on efforts to improve the professionalism of the coffee industry and strengthen market sales promotion. Since the establishment of the Rwanda Coffee Association, it has excellently promoted Rwanda's coffee culture and enhanced the influence of Rwanda coffee.
However, regardless of circumstances, Rwanda coffee's soft and rich flavor is excellent.
Rwanda is a small African country with relatively poor local population, yet it produces exceptionally good coffee. Unlike its neighbors Kenya and Ethiopia, Rwanda's coffee is primarily round Bourbon variety. While its flavor characteristics are not as prominent as Ethiopian and Kenyan coffee, its consistency is excellent.
Rwanda Karnogi coffee is grown and harvested by local small farmers and processed by Gitesi Washing Station. Although this is a relatively young coffee processing facility, it has been renowned for producing high-quality Rwanda coffee due to its responsible work attitude, excellent processing equipment, and standardized processing procedures. Rwanda Karnogi coffee won first place as Award Winner in the 2013 Cup of Excellence. This coffee bean has the typical Bourbon shape - round beans, crystal clear, very cleanly processed with minimal residual silver skin, and greenish color. It is suitable for medium-light roasting, with beans dropped 10 seconds after the first crack ends.
