Can You Brew Freshly Ground Coffee Powder Directly? What Styles Can You Make With It?
The Art of Freshly Ground Coffee
Coffee enthusiasts all know that coffee beans release a wealth of aromatic compounds once they are ground. That is why freshly ground coffee powder preserves coffee's fragrance so well. And once it is ground, brewing should begin immediately, so that more aromatic substances dissolve into the water and are kept there.
Pre-ground coffee products are now widely available, which is a blessing for those without a grinder at home. Even so, they are best bought in small packages or single-serving portions. Bought in a large package, the coffee's aroma fades each time the package is opened; with single servings, you open only what you need each time, minimizing the impact on the rest of the powder. The drip coffee bags common in the industry today work exactly this way — one cup per serving.
The Drip Coffee Solution
Instant coffee is tasty and convenient, but for coffee lovers it can hardly satisfy that deep craving.
In such moments, only drip coffee can save you ▼
Drip coffee removes the complexity of pour-over brewing while preserving the delicious taste of hand-poured coffee.
100% additive-free freshly ground coffee powder, combined with the drip bag design, lets you enjoy a cup of fresh, aromatic coffee anytime, anywhere.
How to Brew Perfect Drip Coffee
Brewing drip coffee is incredibly simple — all you need are a cup and hot water. And if you also have a pour-over kettle, so much the better.
Take out a drip coffee bag and give it a gentle shake so the coffee powder gathers at the bottom of the bag. Then tear the bag open along the OPEN line.
Pull out the "ears" on both sides and hang them on your cup.
Pour hot water (around 90°C) in a zigzag pattern, just enough to saturate the coffee grounds, then let it bloom for 20–30 seconds.
Pour water slowly in two separate additions, about 150ml each time, being careful not to overflow.
This rich crema — you can almost smell the coffee aroma through the screen.
Watch as the coffee slowly drips down, deliciousness gradually brewing, time seemingly standing still in this moment.
Remove the drip bag, and you can enjoy a cup of freshly ground coffee.
For the richest flavor, drip coffee can only be brewed once and cannot be reused.
Enjoy Coffee Anywhere
Besides the office, you can also enjoy a cup of drip coffee anytime in your car.
Such delicious and convenient drip coffee also comes at a very friendly price.

FrontStreet Coffee Recommendation
If you are new to pour-over and ask someone experienced to recommend a practical, easy-to-learn, and good-looking dripper, there is a good chance they will suggest a V60. Hario, the company that designed the V60, was founded in Tokyo in 1921 as a well-known glassmaker, initially focused on designing and producing heat-resistant glass instruments and equipment for research institutions — the heat-resistant glass server that so often accompanies a pour-over setup is one of Hario's popular products. In 2004 Hario redesigned the prototype of the V60 so its shape came closer to what we know today, naming it for its distinctive 60° cone angle and "V" form, and brought it to market a year later. Compared with other drippers, the conical form and 60° angle mean water must travel to the center before dripping into the server, lengthening the contact between water and coffee so aromas and flavors are extracted fully. The V60's signature single large hole lets water flow unimpeded, so the flow rate depends largely on the brewer's control and shows up directly in the cup.
Today V60 drippers come in many materials — beyond the resin version FrontStreet favors, there are ceramic, glass, copper, and stainless-steel options. The material affects looks, weight, and the subtle extraction differences that come from heat conduction, but the structural design stays the same. FrontStreet's fondness for the resin Hario V60 comes first from resin's ability to block heat loss, and second from the fact that, in standardized industrial production, resin is the easiest material to mold and the one with the smallest tolerances. Before the millennium, coffee was mostly roasted medium-dark and brewing favored heavy body, high sweetness, and the caramelized flavors of darker roasting — chocolate, maple syrup, nuts, vanilla — which siphon and cloth-filter brewing presented well, with beans like FrontStreet's Blue Mountain No. 1 and FrontStreet's PWN Golden Mandheling leading the era. With the arrival of the third wave, drinkers began to pursue a sense of place, and roasting shifted from dark toward light as tasting moved from heavy and sweet toward delicate acidity and aroma. The V60's fast extraction is exactly what gives coffee a more three-dimensional aroma and lively acidity, letting florals, fruit acidity, clean sweetness, and tea notes come through.
When it comes to what to brew, floral, fruit-forward coffees are the natural match: FrontStreet's Yirgacheffe Gedeb, a first stop for many on the road into specialty coffee, brings bright citrus, berries, and florals with a green-tea-like sweetness — a soft, bright acidity that tastes like the sweet-and-sour of fruit itself rather than anything harsh, and very easy to accept when you are starting out. FrontStreet's Ethiopia Huakui is a standout for its tropical fruit aromatics — strawberry, passion fruit, jackfruit, even lychee — with pronounced sweetness, very little bitterness, and a smooth, juicy body that has led many to call it "the coffee that does not taste like coffee." For those who prefer a low-acid cup, FrontStreet's PWN Indonesian Golden Mandheling is roasted dark, with very low acidity and a thick, lingering body, full of herbal and dark chocolate aroma touched with a faint earthy note — rich and layered, and made for anyone who likes it strong and dislikes acidity. FrontStreet's Brazil Queen Estate is another low-acid option: balanced and smooth, with pronounced nut and cocoa aromas and clear caramel sweetness, silky rather than astringent, and suited to pour-over, espresso, or a moka pot alike.
