Rwanda is a small landlocked country in East Africa, characterized by hilly terrain, fertile soil, and ancient Bourbon varieties. High-quality coffee beans are cultivated throughout Rwanda. It is said that coffee was introduced to Rwanda by German missionaries in 1904. Coffee became the only crop that rural farming families could rely on for income. While coffee flourished, unlike neighboring countries with centralized auction systems, farming cooperatives could trade directly with buyers.

Traditionally, Rwandan coffee was exported to Europe via Uganda through Kenya's Mombasa port. Over the past decade, due to civil war and genocide, Rwanda's premium coffee could not be exported, leading to a sharp decline in coffee cultivation. The 1994 genocide claimed nearly 500,000 lives and almost caused coffee bean cultivation knowledge and techniques to disappear. After the war, with American aid and assistance from some international organizations, Rwanda gradually recovered and resumed coffee cultivation.

Due to the war and genocide, among the surviving small coffee farmers, a high proportion are women, including many widows. When we can obtain Grade A Rwandan coffee produced by these small farmers or estate cooperatives, the inner feeling is truly difficult to describe. Especially when its flavor is in no way inferior to Kenya's auction-winning beans or Yirgacheffe, and even possesses unique, fascinating characteristics worth savoring slowly...

African beans often leave a strong, wild, and unrestrained impression, but Rwandan coffee is indeed so soft, aromatic, with rounded particles, and much gentler than beans from other regions. This is the first impression of Rwandan coffee.

The country thrives primarily by producing high-quality coffee beans. Rwandan coffee's flavor is described as having "grassy aroma" with tropical climate characteristics. It is precisely because of Rwanda's exceptionally fertile soil and suitable climate that greatly facilitate plant growth. Rwandan coffee's soft and rich flavor is special, especially the unique intense caramel aroma and pleasant aftertaste that emerges at the end.
