Although Brazil's annual coffee production accounts for 30 to 35% of the global total, ranking first in the world, no Brazilian bean can be considered top-tier coffee.

Coffee trees spread across the mountains of southern Brazil, but only one variety can truly be called distinguished: "Santos." Most other hastily processed beans are used for instant coffee and canned coffee.

Brazilian Santos coffee grows in the São Paulo region, named after the export port of Santos. It has a mild and smooth taste, low acidity, moderate body, and a slight sweetness. It has no particularly outstanding advantages nor obvious disadvantages. These gentle flavors blend together, making it a true test for the taste buds to distinguish them one by one. This is also why many Santos enthusiasts love this coffee.

All coffee produced in Brazil is generally referred to as Brazilian coffee. Brazil's land area is the fifth largest in the world, with its entire territory situated between the equator and the Tropic of Capricorn, making it suitable for coffee cultivation. In recent years, the total coffee production has exceeded 40 million bags (60kg per bag), accounting for about 35% of the global total.

The main coffee-producing regions in Brazil are distributed across four states in the south: São Paulo, Paraná, Minas Gerais, and Espírito Santo. Among these, São Paulo and Paraná are the most important producing areas. Due to their proximity to the Tropic of Capricorn, they occasionally face the risk of frost damage in winter. When frost damage occurs, it has a significant impact on the international coffee market.

Given Brazil's vast territory and high coffee production, in addition to the general term "Brazilian coffee," it is further divided into the following four types based on their export ports:

Brazilian Santos Coffee

Exported from the port of Santos in São Paulo state, this is Brazil's most productive and highest quality variety. The main producing areas are São Paulo and Paraná states. Due to their location in southern Brazil with higher latitudes, they are susceptible to frost damage. When the deep winter of July arrives, coffee prices can suddenly increase several times overnight.

The characteristic of Santos coffee is its neutral flavor, slightly bitter with extremely weak acidity. It can blend with any type of coffee bean and has the property of integrating various coffee flavors, making it an indispensable component for coffee blends. Santos coffee is also graded from No. 2 to No. 5 based on the number of defective beans per 500 grams.

Brazilian Rio Coffee

Named after its export from the port of Rio, the beans are larger than Santos coffee beans and have a stronger flavor. It has a stimulating inferior taste on the tongue, known as "Rio Flavor." However, after long-term storage, the stimulation diminishes, and the flavor becomes rich in aroma with mellow sweetness, known as "Golden Rio."

In addition to the two types mentioned above, Brazil also produces Victoria coffee (exported from the port of Victoria) and Bahia coffee (exported from the port of Bahia), but both are of inferior quality.
