A massive and active volcanic eruption has affected the Antigua Island of Guatemala and the coffee growing areas in the southwestern part of Guatemala City.

According to reports, 69 people have lost their lives and dozens have been injured. Coffee farms and factories throughout the affected areas have been covered in volcanic ash and smoke. Since the eruption on Sunday, many residents have been unable to return to work due to impassable roads. According to statistics from Guatemala's Federal Disaster Relief Organization Conred, 3,200 people have been evacuated due to the volcanic eruption, with more than 2,600 still in temporary shelters.
