Hawaiian Kona: The Queen of Coffee
When you think of Hawaii in the United States, you might first think of vacation destinations. Perhaps you didn't know that it's also a famous coffee-producing region.
Hawaii is the only place in the United States that produces coffee. For a long time, Jamaica's Blue Mountain coffee and Hawaiian Kona coffee were recognized as the king and queen of the coffee world, renowned globally.
Origins and Growing Conditions
The Hawaiian Islands were formed by volcanic eruptions and consist of 132 islands. Among them, Hawaii Island is the largest, hence also called the Big Island. The island has two active volcanoes, with a mild and pleasant climate year-round, and nearly 50% forest coverage. On the Kona island, located on the southwestern coast of Hawaii, grows the most famous and traditional Hawaiian coffee nurtured by volcanic ash soil: Hawaiian Kona.
The excellent quality of Kona coffee benefits from its suitable geographical location and climate. Coffee trees grow on volcanic mountain slopes, where the geographical location ensures the altitude needed for coffee growth. The dark volcanic ash soil provides the necessary minerals for coffee cultivation. The climate conditions are extremely suitable: in the morning, gentle sunlight passes through the moisture-filled air, while in the afternoon, the mountains become more humid and foggy. The moving white clouds in the sky serve as natural parasols for the coffee trees, and at night, it becomes clear and cool, but never frosty. These unique natural conditions create the distinctive flavor of Kona coffee - not too strong, not particularly acidic, but full of pleasant wine aroma.
Hawaiian Kona Coffee Grading Standards
The highest grade is Extra Fancy (19 mesh), followed by Fancy (17-18 mesh), then Prime, and finally KONA #1 (Number One).
This is the opposite of Blue Mountain coffee, so if you go to Hawaii to buy Kona No. 1 coffee, you'll probably be laughed at by the locals. Hawaiian Kona coffee beans ranked outside these grades are collectively called Hawaiian coffee and cannot be named 100% pure Kona.
Most coffees on the market that call themselves "Kona" contain less than 5% real Hawaiian Kona coffee. Even when you go to Hawaii, it's hard to buy genuine Kona. When purchasing, you must carefully distinguish whether the label says 100% Kona or Kona Blend. Of course, you can also distinguish by price - if it's only slightly more expensive than regular coffee, it's unlikely to be real Kona.
Why We Don't Sell Rare Coffees
Some coffees are expensive only because of their rarity, not because they taste good;
Drinking coffee is a very subjective matter, and you don't necessarily think expensive coffee tastes better;
Because of the high price, circulation is slow, making it impossible to guarantee freshness;
In summary, we believe that coffee is a necessity in life and should be easily accessible - this is where the value of coffee lies.
However, we will still provide small-batch rare coffee order customization services for everyone to try, that's all.
