Just as the saying goes "the wheel of fortune turns," with the wave of specialty coffee that has swept across the globe over the past decade, emerging varieties represented by Panama Geisha, with their more impactful presence, have seemingly made Blue Mountain coffee a thing of the past.

Nowadays, the term "Blue Mountain" seems to have become commonplace. Simply searching for coffee beans on various online shopping platforms will reveal numerous Blue Mountain options.

However, there's a significant catch here!

For instance, if you carefully examine the names of these coffees, they're rarely simply "Blue Mountain Coffee." Instead, they're typically called "Blue Mountain Flavor Coffee" or "Blue Mountain Blend." At least reputable coffee brands follow this practice, though some questionable brands might directly label them as Blue Mountain. These major brands go to such lengths with their naming because these coffees aren't truly Blue Mountain coffee in the strict sense.

Because of this, among many baristas, discussing "Blue Mountain Coffee" is often considered one of the three "uncultured" or "outdated" topics in the coffee world. (The other two are "Kopi Luwak" and "Why is this coffee sour?")

Anyone who knows about Blue Mountain Coffee knows it's one of the most expensive coffees in the world, but not everyone understands why. Just like Rolls-Royce automobiles and Stradivarius violins, when something gains the reputation of "the best in the world," this reputation often gives it its own unique character and turns it into a timeless legend.

True Blue Mountain coffee offers a balanced, rich flavor profile without any single taste being overpowering or lacking—a quality that no other coffee bean can match.

FrontStreet Coffee Brewing Recommendations

Daily brewing filter choices: V60, Kalita wave, and KONO filters are all suitable.

Using a KONO filter with parameters: 15g of coffee, water temperature at 89°C, grind setting 4, water-to-coffee ratio close to 1:15, total time around 2:00.

Brewing technique: 25-30g of water for blooming, bloom time of 30s, first pour to 120g then stop; vertical water flow, slow circular motion with small stream; second pour to 225g, with slightly faster water flow and circular motion to reduce fine particles clogging the filter, which would cause over-extraction.

The taste is exceptionally clean and complex, very gentle with chocolate sweetness and strong body. The flavor is rich and mellow, with a perfect balance of coffee's sweetness, acidity, and bitterness. It has no bitter notes at all, only moderate and perfect acidity, with a persistent fruity finish.
