The Worka Wuri Processing Station is one of two existing processing stations in Worka village, established in 2012.

"Wuri" means "High Altitude" in the language of the local indigenous Gedeo people.

True to its name, it reflects its exceptional geographical location - not only situated in the most prime area of Yirgacheffe but also possessing inherent high-altitude advantages that create a unique and outstanding flavor profile.

The Worka Wuri Processing Station is located in what can be called the most prime area of the entire broader Yirgacheffe region, which is the Gedeb area (if classified by ECX regions, it belongs to Kochere).

Gedeb is located in the southeastern corner of Yirgacheffe. Traveling south from Yirgacheffe town for about 50 kilometers, the altitude rises from 1,850m in Yirgacheffe town to 2,030 meters at the processing station, making it arguably the highest area in all of Yirgacheffe.

Coffee professionals often refer to this area as Gedeb, mainly because the largest urban center in this region is named Gedeb. Here, you've reached the most profound area - continuing for less than ten minutes brings you to Worka, where the beloved Worka Cooperative is located nearby.

Worka village is one of Gedeb's 16 villages (Kebeles). More precisely, the Worka Wuri Processing Station is located in an area locally known as Worka-Sakaro.

The origin of the Worka-Sakaro village name is quite interesting. During Emperor Haile Selassie's reign, an official visited the area and found the people to be exceptionally warm and hospitable, so he named the region "Worik," meaning "gold." In the language of the local indigenous Gedeo people, this is "Worka."

Furthermore, there is a giant sacred tree named Sakaro in the area. Later generations named the place after the most distinctive and legendary local elements - Worka and Sakaro - making it highly representative. The Worka-Sakaro village currently has 11,025 residents, scattered across an area of 1,297 hectares.
