Yirgacheffe Region

Located in the Sidama region, Yirgacheffe has gained recognition for producing coffee with distinctive and representative flavors that are widely known. This unique profile has earned it a special place in the coffee market, with its own distinct classification.

Yirgacheffe itself is a small town with approximately 20,000 residents. The three neighboring sub-regions—Wenago, Kochere, and Gelena Abaya—produce coffee with flavor profiles nearly identical to Yirgacheffe, which is why they are also classified within the Yirgacheffe regional designation.

While Yirgacheffe shares cultural and geographical similarities with neighboring Sidamo, it appears to be especially blessed with superior natural conditions. The finest Yirgacheffe coffees feature floral notes, bright citrus acidity, lemon-like characteristics, and a silky-smooth mouthfeel that consistently captivate coffee enthusiasts. With the growth of the specialty coffee industry, coffee from this region has always been a focal point for international buyers.

Kochere Sub-Region

Kochere is located in southwestern Ethiopia, approximately 25 miles north of the famous Yirgacheffe town. The production model primarily involves local small farmers delivering their harvest batches to cooperatives for unified processing.

The local Chalalacktu village has about 100,000 residents who depend on coffee for their livelihood. Coffee-related production activities constitute their main economic source. Thanks to income from coffee production, the local standard of living is significantly better than many Ethiopian villages, with well-established health facilities, higher education institutions, and other infrastructure.

Advanced processing equipment has enabled the Kochere region to consistently achieve high performance in washed processing. The clean, sweet profile with complex notes of molasses and citrus is widely praised by coffee connoisseurs.
