How to Use a French Press

The principle of using a French press is very simple. Just follow the steps in the video above:

First, boil water and rinse the French press and cup with hot water to preheat them.

Grind the coffee beans.

Place the ground coffee into the press, then pour in hot water at the appropriate temperature. Add the ground coffee first, then add water.

Let it steep for 4-5 minutes, then press down the filter to separate the coffee liquid from the coffee grounds.

Pour into a cup, add sugar and milk as desired.

ENJOY!

The steps may seem simple, but the fineness of the coffee grind, the temperature of the hot water, and the steeping time all affect the taste of the coffee.

Why French Press Coffee Has Grounds

When making coffee with a French press, there will always be some coffee grounds. Even if there are no granular grounds, fine grounds will make the French press coffee appear cloudy. Usually, you can see mud-like sediment at the bottom of the cup after drinking French press coffee. The reason for these grounds is that the coffee is ground too finely or the press is pushed down too quickly.

Solutions for French Press Grounds

1. Adjust the coffee grind to be coarser, so the coffee particles are slightly larger. This way, during the coffee brewing process, the filter will be able to filter out the coffee grounds.

2. When using a French press to make coffee, there is a pressing step. During this pressing process, slow down the speed to prevent pressing too quickly, which would cause the grounds at the bottom to be flushed back up into the upper coffee liquid.

3. Buy a slightly better coffee grinder. No matter what type of grinder, it will produce fine grounds, and these fine grounds will cause the coffee to become cloudy. If we buy a slightly better grinder, then the grounds in French press coffee will also be slightly reduced.

Regardless, it's impossible to completely avoid grounds in French press coffee; we can only minimize them as much as possible.
