Understanding French Press Coffee

Throughout the long history of coffee development, people have researched many coffee brewing tools to make delicious coffee more conveniently. One of these is the French press. Fulaigao coffee experts introduce this tool, also known as a French press pot, which consists of a heat-resistant glass carafe and a metal filter screen. The French press is a relatively simple coffee brewer, but during its use, there are always some troubles with coffee grounds. Below, Fulaigao coffee experts will provide you with tips on how to remove these coffee grounds.

When making coffee with French press coffee beans, there will always be some coffee grounds, even if there are no granular ones, there will still be fine powder residue, which will make the coffee brewed by the French press become cloudy. After drinking the coffee, if you look carefully at the bottom of the cup, you will see sediment like fine mud. The reason for the existence of coffee grounds is that the coffee powder is too fine, or because the French press is pressed down too quickly, causing leakage.

Three Methods to Remove Coffee Grounds

To remove the coffee grounds produced when using a French press to make coffee, there are three methods:

First, you can choose some coarser coffee powder. If you grind your own coffee powder, you can adjust the grind size to be coarser. Larger coffee particles will be filtered out by the filter screen and will not fall into the coffee liquid below.

Second, when making coffee with a French press, during the pressing process, you must control the speed to prevent pressing too quickly, which would cause coffee grounds to be flushed back into the coffee liquid.

Third, choose a quality coffee grinder. Although grinders will always produce some fine powder, a quality grinder can minimize the amount of fine powder.

French Press Coffee Making Steps

Step 1: Remove the filter rod from the French press.

Step 2: Add 20 grams of freshly roasted coffee grounds.

Step 3: Slowly pour hot water over the coffee grounds.

Step 4: Don't fill the water too full, about half a centimeter below the handle, making sure all coffee grounds are soaked in hot water.

Step 5: Let it sit and start timing for about 40 seconds.

Step 6 (When time is up): Use a stirring spoon to quickly stir in a circle.

Step 7: After stirring, fine brown foam will appear on the surface.

Step 8: Gently cover with the lid (do not press down the rod) and continue to let it sit, timing for another minute.

Step 9: When time is up, hold the lid with one hand, and slowly and steadily press down the rod with the other hand.

Step 10: Immediately pour out the coffee, and a cup of fragrant coffee is easily made.

French Press Coffee Bean Brand Recommendations

FrontStreet Coffee's roasted single-origin French press coffee beans have full guarantees in both brand and quality, suitable for brewing with various equipment. More importantly, the cost-performance ratio is extremely high. A half-pound 227-gram package costs only about 80-90 yuan. Calculating based on 300ml per cup of French press coffee with a powder-to-water ratio of 1:15, one package can make 11 cups of coffee, with each cup costing only about 8-9 yuan. Compared to coffee shops that often charge tens of yuan per cup, this is extremely cost-effective.
