The Gesha Village Story

In 2011, the owners of Gesha Village Estate had a vision when developing a 500-hectare coffee farm in Ethiopia (Gesha Village): "to produce the world's best coffee" and preserve a dream forest of native coffee varieties. Developing a farm, preserving a forest, and creating an industry within the community was the origin of Gesha Village Coffee. All coffee from this estate is rainforest-protected and processed using environmentally friendly methods. The high altitude and perfect microclimate produce uniquely flavorful Geisha coffee.

Aroma Profile: Delicate jasmine floral notes, prominent cranberry and sweet orange flavors, subtle acidity, refreshing and not cloying, with a smooth and mellow mouthfeel.

Gesha Village, Geisha

The journey of Gesha Village began in 2007 when Adam Overton and Rachel Samuel were hired by the Ethiopian government to film a documentary about Ethiopian coffee. During the filming process, they met Dr. Girma, who introduced them to the Gera coffee forest near Jimma. Dr. Girma is a coffee researcher with extensive knowledge about coffee agriculture and farm management. Throughout the documentary filming process, Rachel rediscovered her birth country while Adam became fascinated by the rich history of coffee's origins.

As their coffee journey was coming to an end, they were eager to establish their own coffee farm. They saw tremendous untapped potential and opportunities in Ethiopia's wild coffee forests. Adam and Rachel established Gesha Village Coffee Estate.

Gesha Village Coffee Estate covers a total area of 471 hectares. By 2015, Gesha Village Coffee Estate had completed coffee planting on 300 hectares, with an additional 50 hectares added in 2016. The Geisha selection was sourced from the native coffee forest (Gori Gesha) located 20 kilometers from the estate, which is also the origin of Panama's Geisha variety.

Geisha, Roasting

To highlight the characteristics and aromas of this particular coffee bean, light roasting is recommended. This roast level better brings out the bean's inherent characteristics. Too dark a roast would damage the floral aromas and fruit acidity. Of course, this should also be adjusted based on the coffee bean's characteristics and the roaster's understanding of the bean itself.

Unique Floral and Fruit Aromas

Among numerous coffees, distinctive floral aromas and intense tropical fruit sweetness are consistent characteristics of Geisha coffee.
