People who have never tried drip bag coffee might be afraid that the coffee will be too bitter. However, if you know how to choose coffee beans you like and use the correct brewing method, it won't be bitter at all. Instead, you'll be able to better appreciate the pure flavor of the coffee.

The Origin of Drip Bag Coffee

Drip bag coffee, also known as hang-ear coffee, was actually first invented in Japan, neighboring Taiwan. When mentioning Japan, everyone first thinks of the prosperity of pour-over coffee. However, Japanese office workers with their fast-paced lifestyles don't have that much time to wait for a cup of pour-over coffee.

In 1990, Yamanaka Industrial Co., Ltd. of Japan first applied the tea bag concept to coffee, inventing drip bag coffee and applying for a patent. However, because the hang-ears would lose balance during the coffee brewing process, it wasn't mass-produced. It wasn't until 8 years later when Taiki Trading improved upon the original invention that we have today's drip bag coffee.

The Principle of Drip Bag Coffee

Drip bag coffee is made by grinding coffee beans into powder and filling them into coffee filter paper. The hang-ears on both sides of the filter paper are designed to conveniently hang on the edge of a mug. As long as you have a heat-resistant cup and hot water, even non-coffee experts can easily get started.

Drip Bag Coffee Brewing Steps

1. Take the drip bag out of the aluminum foil packaging, hold the upper edge of the drip bag, and shake gently to concentrate the coffee powder at the bottom.

2. Tear along the dotted line and pull open the hang-ears on both sides, hanging them on the edge of the coffee cup.

3. First inject 20-30cc of hot water and let it sit for 30 seconds to bloom and release the coffee aroma.

4. Then continue to inject 120-150cc of hot water and wait for 1 minute and 30 seconds.

5. Wait for the coffee liquid filtered through the filter paper to flow into the mug to complete the brewing.

Details to Pay Attention to When Brewing

▲ The hot water temperature for brewing coffee should be around 90-95 degrees.

▲ One drip bag can brew about 150cc-180cc of coffee, approximately half a mug.

▲ When injecting hot water, do it in small amounts multiple times to avoid overflowing, which would cause coffee powder to fall into the cup.

▲ After brewing is complete, avoid letting the drip bag continue soaking in the cup, as this might make the coffee bitter.
