Types of Coffee Beverages
Coffee shops offer many varieties of coffee with various flavor additives such as chocolate, alcohol, mint, cloves, lemon juice, cream, creamer, etc. People from different ethnic groups have different tastes in coffee. Below are some common types of coffee:
Black Coffee
Also known as "plain coffee" - in Hong Kong, it's commonly called "Zhai coffee" - a brewing method that directly uses roasted coffee beans without adding milk, sugar, or other ingredients that might affect the original coffee flavor. Instant coffee does not fall within the scope of black coffee.
White Coffee
A Malaysian specialty originating from Ipoh town, referring to coffee beans roasted with butter, then brewed with sweetened condensed milk added. Essentially, it's a type of latte coffee. In the United States, white coffee also refers to lightly roasted coffee beans brewed using the espresso method, resulting in coffee with strong acidity.
Flavored Coffee
Depending on local tastes, various seasonings such as chocolate, syrup, fruit juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and orange blossom are added to coffee.
Caffè Latte
"Caffè latte" is the Italian transliteration; latte coffee is also called "Cafe au lait" (French transliteration) - coffee with large amounts of hot milk and sugar. Also known as "coffee milk" in Chinese interpretation, consisting of one part espresso with more than two parts hot milk. Alternatively, two parts espresso can be added according to preference, called "Double."
Macchiato
An appropriate amount of steamed milk foam is placed on top of espresso. The original meaning of Macchiato in Italian is "coffee stained with milk."
Caramel Macchiato
A type of macchiato coffee with caramel added. A beverage made by adding espresso and vanilla to rich hot milk, and finally drizzling with pure caramel. Its characteristic is that you can taste three different flavors in one drink.
American Coffee / Americano
Espresso plus a large amount of hot water. Milder than regular espresso.
Irish Coffee
Whiskey is added to coffee, with cream placed on top. The name itself carries a strong aroma of whiskey. The Irish regard whiskey as life, and naturally cannot resist adding some to their coffee! Irish coffee made with whiskey better brings out the sweet and sour flavors of coffee.
Viennese Coffee
Invented by Austrian coachman Ein Shubner, it consists of coffee with fresh cream added, sprinkled with colorful sugar-coated rice.
Mandeling Coffee
Produced in Sumatra, Asian Indonesia, also known as Sumatran coffee. The flavor is very rich, fragrant, bitter, and mellow, with a slight sweetness.
Frappé Coffee
Coffee with milk foam, sugar, and ice cubes added. The taste is slightly sweet and cool, with almost no coffee bitterness, making it a suitable beverage for summer refreshment.
Cappuccino and Caffè Latte
Cappuccino coffee is a variation of Italian coffee, where steamed milk foam is poured onto relatively strong coffee. At this point, the coffee's color resembles the headscarf on the dark brown robe of Capuchin monks, hence the coffee's name. Latte coffee is actually also a variation of Italian coffee (Italians are indeed variable), but with slight changes in the proportions of coffee, milk, and foam to 1:2:1.
The difference between cappuccino coffee and latte coffee lies in the different proportions of milk and foam. Cappuccino coffee has more foam, while latte coffee has less foam. The difference in taste is that cappuccino coffee has a stronger coffee flavor, while latte is lighter. Because latte has more milk.
Con Panna and Macchiato Coffee
Simply add an appropriate amount of fresh cream to Italian espresso to easily complete a cup of Con Panna. Tender white fresh cream gently floats on the deep coffee, like a white lotus flower emerging from mud unstained. In Italian espresso, without adding fresh cream or milk, just adding two large spoons of dense and soft milk foam makes a macchiato. Unlike Con Panna, to enjoy the delicious taste of macchiato, you must drink it in one gulp.
Mocha Coffee
Adding chocolate can make rich mocha coffee.
Royal Coffee
This premium creation was invented by an emperor who was skilled in warfare. Blue flames dance with the mellow aroma of brandy and the caramelized fragrance of sugar, combined with the rich coffee aroma, slightly sweet amidst bitterness.
