Guatemala Antigua Coffee Beans

Produced in the South American country of Guatemala, these beans belong to the Bourbon variety of coffee, one of the more acidic varieties. The flavor is mellow and slightly wild, making it most suitable for blending into mixed coffee. Antigua city is the oldest and most beautiful city in the Americas. As early as 1543, Antigua city was the capital of the entire Central American colonial era. After the great earthquake of 1773, Antigua city was completely destroyed, so the capital was moved to Guatemala City.

Antigua Island is a famous coffee-producing region. Rich volcanic soil, low humidity, strong sunlight, and cool evening winds are the characteristics of the Antigua region. Approximately every 30 years, the areas near Antigua Island suffer from volcanic eruptions, which provide more nitrogen to the already fertile land. Moreover, adequate rainfall and sunshine make this place more suitable for growing coffee.

Currently, some of Guatemala's highest quality coffee is exported to Japan, where each cup sells for $3-4.

Antigua is located in central Guatemala and is famous for its beautiful colonial city, serving as the capital for 200 years. After the great earthquake of 1776, the capital was moved to the current Guatemala City. Antigua has always been Guatemala's most famous coffee-producing region, located in a high-altitude valley surrounded by three main volcanoes: Vulcan de Agua, Fuego, and Acatenango. Among these, Vulcan de Agua (Water Volcano) is the closest, with a famous wet mill "Bella Vista" at its foot. The mill owner is Luis Pedro Zelaya, a fourth-generation farmer who also owns several small farms.

The volcanic ash soil is fertile, the climate is dry, and the altitude is high, making the Water Volcano itself an excellent coffee-growing area. The Bella Vista wet mill uses traditional wet processing methods, soaking the beans in clean water for 24 hours to ensure all fruit mucilage is thoroughly cleaned.
