Colombia Antioquia La Claudina

This batch is produced by a young coffee farmer from Colombia.

The renowned coffee farmer Luis Saldarriaga from the Antioquia region owns two estates: El Encanto and La Claudina. Both estates are located in Antioquia, each covering 60 hectares, but only 42 hectares in total are planted with coffee, while the remaining areas consist of pristine forest and nature reserves. The altitude ranges from 1400 to 1800 meters, with La Claudina Estate located in Ciudad Bolivar, which is the production area for this coffee.

Luis's son Juan recently took over management of these two estates. He not only experiments with different processing methods and varieties on his own estates but also assists young coffee farmers in the vicinity. This micro-batch consists of 50% Castillo and 50% Colombia varieties. He experiments with planting different varieties at various altitudes, many of which have only recently been cultivated.

Coffee from Antioquia is known for being solid but perhaps somewhat uninteresting. Juan's experiments are helping us discover more interesting coffees. The biggest challenge in producing natural process locally is the humid climate, sometimes excessively high temperatures, which are extremely unfavorable for drying. Juan quickly constructed shade-drying facilities and raised beds. He also purchased a cold-air drying machine, along with software that can control temperature and airflow, to produce coffees with different flavor profiles.
