Compared to other ancient and time-honored estates, Mama Cata Estate, established in 1997, is relatively young. Despite lacking a long historical legacy, the estate owner José David Garrido Pérez holds Q Grader certification, which enables Mama Cata to focus more intensively on technical expertise in coffee cultivation to produce distinctive coffee beans.
The estate is situated in the Chiriquí district of Boquete, at an altitude of 1500-1700 meters, with an average annual temperature between 13-26°C and annual rainfall of approximately 4000mm, plus nutrient-rich volcanic soil. These conditions create an ideal environment for coffee cultivation. Such natural microclimate enhances the richness of compounds in the coffee beans. Unlike traditional coffee estates, Mama Cata uses GPS coordinates to define its micro-batch areas.
Through understanding and application of technological information, growers obtain data on each coffee tree's variety, soil composition, health status, and production conditions. This information enables them to effectively respond to any variables that might adversely affect coffee bean production, further establishing Mama Cata as one of the consistent winners in the Best of Panama competition.
