Ecuadorian Coffee Beans: Galapagos Islands San Cristobal Island Organic Turtle Coffee Beans

The Galapagos Islands of Ecuador are one of the world's endangered ecological heritage sites. To protect precious species on the islands (such as Galapagos tortoises), the local government has designated 85% of the islands as national parks and established natural ecological protection zones.

The giant tortoises unique to the Galapagos Islands are the longest-living terrestrial creatures in the world. Recently affected by environmental changes and invasive species, their population has been decreasing year by year. To protect Galapagos tortoises, the World Heritage Committee has listed the Galapagos on the 'List of World Heritage in Danger' to protect the local ecological environment and species, and explicitly prohibits the import of all artificial toxic substances.

The Galapagos Islands consist of 13 large islands and 6 small islands, making them one of the most ecologically diverse regions in the world. The volcanic terrain has nurtured rich species, while the island climate and natural soil environment create coffee with wonderful aroma and mellow sweetness.

In 1866, Don Manuel J. Cobos first introduced Bourbon coffee tree seedlings to San Cristobal Island. For over 100 years, San Cristobal Island has continued to harvest coffee fruits from old tree varieties, while simultaneously obtaining international organic certifications from organizations such as OCIA and IFOAM.

Known as the 'pearl' of specialty coffee, Galapagos coffee uses natural farming methods for coffee cultivation, resulting in a smooth and mild taste with sweet cane sugar notes and subtle spices that add distinctive character.

Cupping flavors: Sugarcane, spices, brown sugar, walnuts.

Are Ecuadorian Coffee Beans Good to Drink?

Ecuador is possibly the highest altitude Arabica coffee growing country in the world.

Arabica coffee trees were first introduced to Ecuador in 1952, and their coffee quality is excellent, especially the coffee harvested in early June. Ecuadorian coffee beans can be divided into two varieties: Galapagos and Gigante, both characterized by large beans and heavy weight. Ecuadorian coffee is classified by quality into No. 1 and Extra Superior grades. They are mainly exported to Nordic countries in the Scandinavian Peninsula.

The main problem facing coffee producers is maintaining consistent quality. Ecuadorian coffee beans generally have a very balanced and refreshing taste, with a unique fragrance.

Ecuador is one of the few South American countries that produces both Arabica and Robusta coffee. However, due to decreasing land suitable for Arabica coffee cultivation, Robusta coffee production is gradually increasing. The best Arabica coffee is produced in the Andes Mountains, particularly the Chanchamgo Valley. The Andes Mountains consist of two parallel mountain ranges extending from south to north, reaching central Ecuador.
