The Fascinating World of Peruvian Coffee

When it comes to Peruvian coffee beans, there are endless interesting stories to tell - the ancient and mysterious Incan legends, the city in the sky (Machu Picchu), the enigmatic Nazca Lines, the Andean mountain peaks that touch the sky, South America's largest freshwater lake - Lake Titicaca (at an altitude of 3,812 meters, almost as high as Jade Mountain), and let's not forget, Peru is also the homeland of llamas, affectionately known as "grass mud horses" in China. Peru is such a fascinating country, and in the specialty coffee world, Peru is one of the most interesting players.

When mentioning Peruvian coffee beans, the most immediate association is with certified organic coffee. Peru's organic coffee, in addition to its inherent humanistic and natural conditions, receives strong government support as another important factor, making it arguably the most important producing region in the organic coffee market. However, perhaps due to the deeply ingrained stereotype of organic coffee, Peru's specialty coffee development is often overlooked. In fact, Peru possesses what can only be described as extraordinary conditions for specialty coffee production - and this is no exaggeration.

Blessed by the Andes Mountains, Peru's altitude and topographical diversity are truly unique. Flying to the ancient capital of Cusco, one can admire the snow-capped Andean peaks emerging above the clouds from the plane, yet just an hour's flight away lies Lima, the capital, which is undeniably a coastal city. We traveled to Peru's eastern producing region this time by night bus, a sleeper service departing at 8 PM and arriving around 9 AM the next morning. In just twelve short hours, we journeyed from sea level across mountain roads at approximately 5,000 meters altitude, then descended to producing regions at around 2,000 meters - an unforgettable lifelong experience. In Peru, planting altitudes of 1,800 or even 2,000 meters are not uncommon. Coffee-producing families, predominantly consisting of indigenous people who live in harmony with nature, employ the most natural cultivation methods and preserve many old-tree varieties.

2017 marked an important year for Peruvian specialty coffee. The first Cup of Excellence (COE), held under the eager anticipation of many members, finally took place in October 2017, signaling that Peruvian coffee farmers were expanding their focus beyond organic coffee. The batches we selected this time were also acquired through special channels during the COE competition.

This is our first time selecting Peruvian coffee beans from the Peruvian region. We are bringing you three different premium coffees, each with its unique flavor profile - noble yet affordable, with extremely limited quantities. These are rare, high-quality Peruvian specialty coffees that you shouldn't miss.
