This batch is produced by small-scale coffee farmers in the Sidama province of southern Ethiopia. The Sidama province has a coffee farmers' cooperative alliance - the Sidama Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (SCFCU). The Bensa Cooperative is part of this alliance, which is second only to the Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (YCFCU), making it Ethiopia's second-largest coffee farmers' cooperative alliance, established in 2001 with 46 cooperatives representing 80,000 coffee farmer families.
Due to abundant rainfall, ideal climate, and fertile soil, washed Sidama coffee is typically high-quality, featuring clean, mature flavors like sweet lemon, balanced acidity and richness. The coffee from this region has unique flavors that can rival the neighboring Yirgacheffe region to the north.
Kochere Region
Kochere is located 25 kilometers southeast of Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia - a small coffee-producing region and one of Yirgacheffe's three famous micro-regions. The local population is about 100,000 people, with coffee beans as the main source of income. This region has very advanced processing equipment. The renowned coffee review website Coffee Review gave Kochere washed beans a high score of 94 points.
