Hawaii is a beautiful island with abundant natural resources, cultivating many fruits, cocoa, hazelnuts, and coffee. Among these, coffee commands the highest price and brings farmers the greatest harvest. Hawaii began coffee cultivation as early as the 18th century, with most coffee grown on Kauai Island and the Big Island of Hawaii. Thanks to the ideal island climate, fertile volcanic ash soil, and meticulous processing, Kona beans exhibit exceptional uniformity and completeness with few defects or broken beans. However, limited planting area and expensive American wages keep Kona bean prices high and rather expensive. Yet, perfectly clean and uniquely fragrant with tropical fruit notes, Hawaiian Kona beans are irreplaceable by other coffees.

Compared to Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, both varieties share mild acidity and delicate fruit flavors with a tender sweetness. However, Kona beans' strict quality control and advanced low-temperature storage equipment ensure consistently high-quality beans without negative reviews, unlike Blue Mountain coffee which occasionally receives mixed evaluations.

About Kona Coffee

Coffee enthusiasts are likely familiar with Kona's characteristic acidity and rich fruit notes. The term "Kona" specifically represents coffee beans produced in Hawaii, but their quality and flavor profile can vary significantly between different products, making precise description challenging. This variation occurs because different estates/companies may grow or source different coffee varieties, making each product represent different plant fruits. Additionally, harvesting times and post-harvest processing and screening methods may vary (particularly the screening process determines bean grading: extra fancy, fancy, or estates). Most importantly, different roasting methods and degrees all contribute to varying flavor profiles. Hawaiian Kona beans are uniformly complete with few defects or broken beans, and exhibit large, semi-circular granules.
