Guatemala Coffee Beans
Guatemala coffee beans are produced in Guatemala. Most Guatemala coffee beans belong to the Bourbon variety and its variants, making them one of the varieties with strong acidity. They have a mellow and slightly wild flavor, making them most suitable for blending into mixed coffee.
Characteristics of Guatemala Coffee Beans
The Strictly Hard Beans (SHB) from Guatemala are renowned for their elegant and lively acidity, clean taste without impurities, distinct layers, as well as green apple acidity, berry fragrance, jasmine floral notes, orange peel aroma, green pepper fragrance, fruit sweetness and sourness, chocolate sweetness, and even a smoky aftertaste.
Growing Regions of Guatemala Coffee Beans
Such rich regional flavors are related to the soil and water conditions of Guatemala's eight major growing regions. Among them, Antigua, Acatenango Valley, Atitlán, San Marcos, and Huehuetenango five regions belong to volcanic rock geology. Additionally, the three regions of Cobán, Verapaces, and Nuevo Oriente belong to non-volcanic highlands or tropical rainforest climates. Guatemala has over 300 microclimates throughout the country,堪称 the world's most.
The Value of Guatemala Coffee Beans
Most Guatemala coffee beans are cultivated in high-altitude volcanic areas with soil belonging to the highest-grade Arabica variety. Due to the longer maturation period, the beans are medium-sized and dense (Guatemala coffee bean grading is not based on size but on the number of defects). The beans have a dark green color. Their characteristics include fragrance, mellowness, sweetness, and a uniquely refreshing and pleasant acidity, because the aroma and taste of coffee beans are hidden in their acidity. Therefore, only coffee beans with these characteristics can be called premium coffee beans.
Guatemala has a high average altitude, with coffee growing zones distributed above 1,500 meters between 14 and 16 degrees north latitude, making it most suitable for growing Strictly Hard Beans. All are wet-processed, with 45% belonging to the specialty grade, a remarkably high proportion, with a small amount of Robusta.
The main varieties of Guatemala coffee beans are Bourbon, Typica, Catuai, and Caturra, with small amounts of Yellow Bourbon, Geisha, and Pacamara. The varieties are quite diverse, but the preservation of ancient Typica and Bourbon is particularly valuable.
