Choosing the Right Coffee Beans for Espresso
The choice of coffee beans for making espresso is incredibly important. How should I put it?!
Different roast levels of coffee beans will present different flavors.
Different varieties of coffee beans will present different aromas.
Different roasting methods of coffee beans will also present different textures.
On the market, choosing any coffee bean to brew coffee basically determines its primary flavor characteristics.
Therefore, my personal suggestion is to choose your preferred coffee flavor and maximize its unique characteristics and flavors to better appreciate its beauty.
Selecting and Extracting Coffee Beans
So... which coffee beans can you choose? And how can you extract their maximum characteristics?
For example, taking espresso as an example, I personally prefer the flavor of medium-dark roast imported Italian coffee beans, but not to the point of being oily. Its aroma tends toward nutty and cocoa notes, with a lingering aftertaste as its signature. (Of course, different Italian brand beans have different aromas, but we won't discuss that today.)
Since the characteristic is a lingering aftertaste that remains in the mouth, you need to find ways to extract the coffee to achieve a rich and strong aftertaste (middle and later stages), allowing more substances from the coffee to be released, which will give the entire espresso a full aroma.
Understanding Espresso Extraction Time
But... this requires first understanding the duration of coffee extraction.
The longer the extraction time for espresso coffee, the longer the coffee contact with hot water, more substances from the coffee will be released, naturally the middle and later stage flavors will emerge, and the final aroma will be more complete.
Therefore, seeing the extracted coffee grounds呈现ing a mud-like consistency is normal (especially when ground very finely). The substances from the coffee will also diffuse toward the water. The longer the extraction time, the more the coffee grounds absorb water, and of course become very moist.
But if you use coffee beans that aren't as resistant to brewing... extracting for too long... then the coffee will become very unpleasant...
The quickest solution is to #vLog1 make good use of your sense of taste to make optimal adjustments... which will result in a smoother flavor.
