Colombian Coffee Region: Nariño

The Colombian Nariño region is located in the southeastern part of Colombia, bordering Ecuador, within the Andes Mountains (the Andes range begins in the south in Chile and Argentina, spans across Colombia from north to south, and also runs through the Nariño region). The natural geographical environment here—tropical Pacific coast, Amazon basin, and the towering Andes Mountains—divides the Nariño region into three major terrains: first, the plains along the Pacific coast; second, the Amazon basin; and third, the Andean mountainous area. The Nariño coffee region is produced by 37 municipalities in the Nariño province. Located near latitude 0° at the equator, the region receives nearly the same amount of daily sunlight throughout the year, with an average of 1,666 hours of sunshine annually. Additionally, the region's location, geographical environment, suitable annual average temperature for coffee growth, stable daily temperature variations between morning and evening, annual rainfall, and soil rich in organic matter enable coffee trees in the Nariño region to thrive at high altitudes, significantly influencing the coffee's flavor and aroma.

Colombian Nariño Premium Coffee

Colombian Nariño comes from the southwestern Nariño province of Colombia, located in the Andes Mountains—one of many coffee-producing regions near the Ecuador border. It is a specialty coffee bean highly regarded among coffee enthusiasts.

Through manual selection of the highest quality beans, screening for coffee beans that reach or even exceed 18 screen size, only supremo grade beans with large and beautiful particles can be marked with "Narino Reserva Del Patron" for shipment.

Exceptional Growing Conditions

In recent years, Nariño has garnered strong attention from the specialty coffee community. Nariño is situated directly on the equator at 1 degree north latitude, in the southernmost part of Colombia, bordering Ecuador. The entire region consists almost entirely of high mountains with towering altitudes, combined with a special microclimate that maintains temperatures between 16-25 degrees Celsius, making it extremely suitable for coffee cultivation. Furthermore, Nariño has five volcanoes: Chiles (4,718 meters), Cumbal (4,764 meters), Azufral (4,070 meters), Doña Juana (4,250 meters), and Galeras (4,276 meters). The fertile volcanic soil enables Nariño to produce exceptional coffee.

High Altitude Cultivation

Farms almost exclusively grow coffee at altitudes of 2,100 meters (6,800 feet). At such high elevations, heirloom Typica varieties seem to develop rich floral aromas and vibrant flavors, reminiscent of the cool morning air surrounded by mountain mist, creating a contemplative experience.

Unique Terroir and Processing

Compared to other regions in Colombia, Nariño receives perpendicular sunlight (due to the equator!), resulting in a less humid climate with more wind and greater number of sunny days, nurturing extremely distinctive flavors. Coffee cultivation is carried out by small farmers who harvest and process the coffee themselves, with most farms equipped with small manual depulpers.
