Understanding Coffee Powder
While some people may not be familiar with coffee powder, everyone is quite familiar with coffee itself. To enjoy good coffee, one must pay attention to some essential tips for brewing coffee, which allows the nutritional value of the coffee to be fully released.
How to Brew Coffee Powder
1. Boiling makes coffee bitter, so it's strongly recommended not to place coffee directly on fire for boiling. Instead, brew at a temperature between 90 to 96°C (195 to 205°F).
2. Never reheat already brewed coffee.
The optimal temperature to maintain coffee's best flavor is 86°C (185°F).
3. Use fresh water for brewing.
Water volume should be 98% per cup. If the water has an unusual taste, consider using activated carbon filtration.
4. Do not reuse ground coffee powder, as the residue in brewed coffee powder contains the more bitter components of coffee.
5. Please use the correct grind size recommended by your coffee manufacturer.
If ground too finely, it will cause over-extraction, producing bitterness or clogging the brewing equipment.
If ground too coarsely, it will result in coffee that is as weak as water.
For drip brewing equipment, the dripping process should be completed within two to four minutes for the appropriate grind size.
6. We recommend using 10 grams of ground coffee per 180 milliliters (6 ounces) of water.
Regardless of how much coffee you're brewing, maintain the same ratio.
7. Coffee should not be kept warm on a coffee machine for more than 20 minutes, as leaving it for too long will cause it to lose flavor.
We recommend using thermal carafes or vacuum flasks for storage, which can keep coffee warm and fragrant for longer periods.
Brewing Equipment Recommendations
People now have a clear understanding of how to brew coffee powder. At any time, we shouldn't neglect treating ourselves well, so many things we should learn to do ourselves. Today's introduction on how to brew coffee powder has been very detailed, and everyone can try it themselves when they have time to see if the coffee they brew is delicious.
If you want tools, there are basic options like French press and drip brewers. More advanced ones include moka pots and siphon brewers. It's similar to tea drinking - you can buy regular tea and brew it directly in a glass cup, or you can buy Longjing tea and use a Yixing teapot to slowly savor last year's rainwater.
Simple and Affordable Brewing Methods
Here's a brief introduction to a few simple and inexpensive options:
French Press
Simply put, a French press is a cup with a metal filter screen. You put coffee powder into the cup, add water, and insert the filter. When pouring coffee, the filter screen blocks the coffee grounds. The basic structure is similar to cups in supermarkets that have inner lids with filter screens to block tea leaves when drinking tea. Of course, it's different from a teacup, but the principle is the same. A cup that brews one to two servings of coffee costs about 40 yuan. This method is suitable for coarser ground coffee. Don't brew fine coffee powder for too long.
Drip Brewing
Drip brewing coffee is like the filtration experiment we learned in elementary school. There's a funnel-shaped container on top and a cup underneath to catch the liquid. You fold filter paper into a funnel shape and place it in the funnel, put coffee powder into the filter paper, pour water over the coffee powder, and coffee drips into the cup below. To use this method for brewing coffee, you only need to buy a filter cup (funnel) and filter paper. Depending on the material of the filter cup, an ordinary one costs about 30-40 yuan. Filter paper is disposable, one sheet per use. A box of 40 sheets costs between 15-30 yuan.
Flannel Filter
There are also flannel cloth filter cones (also called filter screens). Coffee powder is placed in the screen (on the flannel cloth), water is poured over the coffee powder, and a cup is placed under the flannel filter cone to catch the dripping coffee.
