Introduction

With my newly purchased Moka pot, it took three attempts to successfully brew coffee. Rich espresso combined with milk - making your own latte really saves money! Every time I go out, I only order lattes. Previously, when I wanted to try something new with friends at a café, I ordered a hazelnut latte, but it was so sweet - making lattes at home without sugar is perfect!

Ingredients

Espresso coffee powder (full scoop), warm water (0.5cm below safety valve), 3-cup Moka pot, milk (appropriate amount), sugar (appropriate amount)

Steps

  1. Pour warm water into the lower chamber, with the water level 0.5cm below the safety valve. Don't exceed the safety valve!
  2. Fill the coffee filter basket completely with ground coffee powder, then tap the filter basket gently a few times to ensure the coffee powder is fully packed, and clean any excess powder from around the edges of the filter basket.
  3. Assemble the upper chamber, filter basket, and lower chamber together, making sure to tighten firmly to prevent the Moka pot from leaking steam.
  4. Heat the Moka pot over low heat. If you're a beginner like me, keep the lid open to observe, otherwise it's easy to over-extract. After about two to three minutes, coffee will begin to flow out. When the coffee rises to about 70-80% of the height of the metal tube in the pot, turn off the heat. Uncle Bean says don't wait for the "gurgling" sound before turning off the heat, otherwise it's easy to over-extract.
  5. After turning off the heat, place the pot on a towel soaked in cold water for 30 seconds - this also prevents over-extraction of the coffee.
  6. Heat the milk, but don't boil it, then pour it into the cup containing the coffee. Enjoy your leisure time!

Tips

  1. Make sure to tighten the Moka pot firmly to prevent steam leakage!
  2. Using or not using filter paper doesn't matter much - I didn't buy any myself.
  3. Don't tamp the coffee powder too firmly, or you can simply skip the tamping step altogether.
  4. The amount of milk and sugar is up to your personal preference.
