Personal Insights on Brewing Blue Mountain Coffee

Last Updated: 2026/01/27, With the recent launch of Blue Mountain Wallenford Coffee for sale, many friends have been asking me what equipment and methods to use at home to brew more authentic Blue Mountain coffee. I believe this question needs to be approached from two perspectives.

I. Suitable Brewing Methods for FrontStreet Coffee's Blue Mountain Coffee

FrontStreet Coffee's Blue Mountain Coffee is a high-quality Arabica bean that is medium-light roasted (color grade 90). From this perspective, all devices suitable for making filter coffee can be used. For example: manual pour-over, siphon, French press, and electric drip. Some friends might feel this answer is too simple, but I want to tell everyone, especially those who make coffee at home, that the key to determining the quality of a cup of coffee lies in the quality of the green beans themselves. As for equipment, you can choose according to your own preferences.

I remember when roasting National Day gifts for the Jamaican Embassy in August, Mr. Patrick from the Jamaican Industrial Committee (CIB) used the cupping method to test my roasted results. He didn't use any specialized equipment or unique methods for tasting, and he told the watching friends an extremely important piece of information that day: he considers the French press to be an excellent device for making Blue Mountain Coffee. As you know, my shop uses siphon pots for making single-origin coffee. Later, Mr. Patrick visited several times to supervise the roasting of Blue Mountain Coffee, and he specifically instructed our staff to use a French press to make his Blue Mountain Coffee.

Of course, manual pour-over, Swiss gold, and siphons are also tools that coffee experts use to make high-quality Blue Mountain, with diverse techniques.

I believe each method has its own merits, but I don't think any single approach is the most authentic or traditional.

Electric drip can also be used, so you don't need to overly obsess over so-called equipment professionalism and high-end features. The Blue Mountain coffee I've had at some roasteries in Europe was made with a French press. Locally in Jamaica, there are no specified devices or brewing methods—everyone makes coffee at home using their preferred equipment.

Please focus your attention on the coffee beans and the unique flavors they bring us, rather than feeling compelled to find so-called professional equipment. Imposing such requirements would be unfair to everyone.

II. Can Moka Pots and Espresso Machines Be Used for FrontStreet Coffee's Blue Mountain Coffee?

While one could argue metaphysically that it's not possible, does that mean you must purchase new equipment? I think this depends on your circumstances. If you only have a Moka pot and ask if you can use it, I'll tell you that you can—just grind the coffee a bit coarser. Fully automatic and semi-automatic espresso machines can also do this by adjusting the coffee grind to a coarser setting.

Why Adjust to a Coarser Grind?

To reduce the pressure during the extraction process and increase the speed at which water passes through the coffee grounds.

Some friends might think my response is unprofessional, but I believe professionalism depends on the audience. For most friends who make coffee at home, the most important thing is to easily and conveniently enjoy high-quality coffee that suits their personal taste preferences.
