Before diving into the world of coffee, many people hesitate for a long time. You can see many people on the streets holding a cup of milk coffee, and they want to try it too. When first starting out, those who can't accept straight coffee will choose milk coffee, after all, adding milk makes it sweet, fragrant, and smooth. So here you have two main choices: latte or cappuccino. Today, let's talk about the past and present of cappuccino.
The History of Cappuccino
The Viennese Franz George Kolschitsky was the creator of Cafe Latte, which combines milk and coffee. Both Cafe Latte and cappuccino are derived from coffee and milk, but the origin of cappuccino is more scholarly and has always been the best subject for studying the evolution of words in Europe and America.
The Origin of Cappuccino
The monks of the Capuchin order, founded after 1525, wore brown robes with pointed hats. When the Capuchin order spread to Italy, locals found the monks' attire very special and gave them the name "Cappuccino." This Italian word refers to the loose robes and small pointed hats worn by monks, derived from the Italian word for "hood" - "Cappuccio." However, Italians love coffee, and they discovered that when espresso, milk, and milk foam were mixed together, the color resembled the dark brown robes worn by the monks. With a flash of inspiration, they named the milk-coffee beverage with its distinctive pointed milk foam "Cappuccino."
Characteristics of Cappuccino
Anyone who has drunk cappuccino knows its biggest characteristic: a layer of foamed milk on top of the coffee, and that layer of foam is created using steam.
The coffee underneath is authentic espresso - because it's concentrated, it's very rich and has a bittersweet taste. However, the milk foam on top is sweet and delicious. With just one price, you get to experience two different flavors! Moreover, the bitterness and sweetness of cappuccino coffee are handled without any abruptness. They feel as if they have the same nature - when you drink it, you won't feel uncomfortable at all, but rather find it fragrant, mellow, and very delicious!

Making Cold Milk Foam
To make cold milk foam, you need a frother. If you don't have one, you can use a French press as a substitute. This time we'll choose a French press to froth the milk. Pour fresh milk into the French press to about halfway full, then pump the French press or frother back and forth about 20 times until the foam reaches about 80% full, and then you'll get dense milk foam.
Then you can pour the iced milk foam into the prepared cup. You can also reserve some dry foam to create a small white cap on top for better appearance. Next, pour the extracted espresso into the cup, and finally spread the reserved dry foam on top. You can also sprinkle cinnamon powder or chocolate powder according to your personal preference. This way, a glass of iced cappuccino is ready!
How Does Iced Cappuccino Taste?
The espresso made with our FrontStreet Coffee's Warm Sun Blend has distinct chocolate liqueur flavors. When paired with iced milk and iced milk foam, it presents a very full-bodied texture with rich, lasting cocoa flavor accompanied by wine-smoked notes. It's an excellent summer refresher!
Differences Between Cappuccino and Latte
1. The difference between cappuccino and latte lies in the different ratios of milk to foam.
2. Cappuccino has more milk foam, while latte has less.
3. The difference in taste is that cappuccino has a stronger coffee flavor, while latte is milder because latte contains more milk.
