Why is Jamaica Blue Mountain so sought after and popular?

The Blue Mountains are located in the eastern part of Jamaica Island. Because the mountain is surrounded by the Caribbean Sea, on clear sunny days when direct sunlight hits the azure sea surface, the peak reflects the brilliant blue light of the seawater, hence its name. The highest peak of Blue Mountain reaches 2,256 meters in altitude, making it the highest peak in the Caribbean region and a famous tourist destination. This area is located in the coffee belt, with fertile volcanic soil, fresh air without pollution, humid climate, and year-round fog and rain (average rainfall of 1,980 mm, temperature around 27°C). Such climate and extremely high altitude have created the world-renowned Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee, while also creating the second most expensive coffee in the world.

Why is there so much Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee in China, so much that it can be found everywhere on Taobao, Tmall, physical stores, and supermarkets?

First, you can pay attention to whether it's labeled as "Blue Mountain flavor" or "Blue Mountain blend"... These types are usually not genuine Jamaica Blue Mountain, just playing on the edge... Just like Chinese-flavored restaurants in Europe, America, and Australia, they are not trustworthy.

Jamaica Mavis Bank Blue Mountain NO.1

Jamaica's Blue Mountain legal coffee growing area is constantly shrouded in blue mist, hence the name "Blue Mountain." The Blue Mountain growing area is located in eastern Jamaica, spanning 45 kilometers in length and 20 kilometers in width, with altitudes reaching up to 2,260 meters, making it the highest mountain range in the Caribbean Sea region. The Blue Mountains are covered with fertile soil with excellent drainage, very suitable for coffee cultivation.

Mavis Bank is located in Jamaica's legal Blue Mountain area and is one of the Jamaican government-certified green bean processing plants, situated about 10 miles northeast of the capital Kingston, and has been operated by the Munn family since 1885.

Initially, the Munn family cultivated and processed harvested coffee cherries on Strawberry Hill on the west side of Blue Mountain. In 1920, Victor Munn established the current Mavis Bank processing plant, which was later taken over by Victor's nephew, Keble Munn. Keble was not only an agricultural operator but also Jamaica's first certified cupper. Currently, Mavis Bank has become Jamaica's largest coffee collection point. To ensure coffee quality, the processing plant collects green beans from single farms or small farmers in specific Blue Mountain growing areas. Coffee cultivation and processing areas are located in mountainous regions averaging 1,600 to 900 meters in altitude. Sufficient altitude, gentle afternoon clouds and mist shrouding the mountain forests for shade, ample sunlight, and mineral-rich planting soil provide excellent growing conditions for coffee trees and extend the maturation period of coffee cherries.

During the green bean processing stage, only mature red fruits are harvested, followed by manual hand-selection and floating fruit elimination procedures as basic requirements. Farmers send the remaining selected coffee cherries to another washing station for a second selection, and pulp removal is performed before evening. Then they are carefully placed in large water tanks to screen out any over-fermented, unripe, or insect-damaged cherries before proceeding with mucilage removal. The parchment beans after mucilage removal are placed on cement stone slabs to sun-dry for 5 days, then bagged and stored in warehouses for at least 10 weeks. Finally, the hulled green beans undergo one final manual defect selection process. Mavis Bank has Jamaica's most complete green bean processing equipment, with 6,000 farmers under its management. Under the Munn family's management, the M.B.C.F trademark has been established as a world-renowned quality guarantee.

Carefully selected bean size of 17/18 screen, No. 1 grade Blue Mountain coffee with less than 2% defect rate.
