Introduction

The Sidamo region is located in southern Ethiopia. The local economy is predominantly agricultural, with coffee growing areas situated around the Great Rift Valley. The largest town in Sidamo province is Hawassa, which serves as an important coffee export hub. Sidamo coffee flavors are exceptionally diverse due to different soil compositions, regional microclimates, and countless indigenous coffee varieties, resulting in significant differences and characteristics in coffee produced by each town area.

Shakisso, located in Guji Zone in the southern part of Oromia Region, borders Sidama and Gedeo. This area has numerous mine pits that were originally used for gold mining, so there are many pits in the coffee growing area. This makes walking through coffee cultivation areas dangerous. Shakisso is a unique producing area within Guji/Sidamo, even within Sidamo it's a remote region far from most coffee-producing areas, while another famous local product is gold mines.

Factors such as miners, land, and ethnic tensions also made the region unstable in 2006. Therefore, the biggest challenge facing this area today is the need for labor to maintain the growing areas and harvest coffee. Local smallholder farmers began growing organic coffee in 2001 and work closely with medium-sized coffee producers because they are skilled in growing forest coffee in highland areas.

Hambella Woreda is located in Guji Zone. The rise of Guji Zone can be described as one of several important development trends in Ethiopia in recent years, with Shakisso being a well-known example. However, the operational model of Hambella Woreda can be considered another unique case. The rise of Guji Zone has its inherent advantages, combined with the Dutch coffee merchant Trabocca entering this region five years ago to jointly produce coffee with local coffee estates. They donate coffee cupping laboratories and strive to improve coffee quality and yield annually. Through their company's quality control, they have gradually influenced the farming techniques of neighboring coffee growers. Furthermore, Trabocca company has long-term employees with over 10 years of experience in coffee cultivation, production, processing, and marketing in this region, which has contributed to the improvement of coffee quality in this area.

The FrontStreet Coffee washed Sidamo G1 Guji Zone Hambella Woreda green coffee beans, produced by local smallholder farmers, have consistently gained market attention and love. In terms of coffee flavor, they have distinct floral and fruit aromas, with gentle acidity upon entry and lime fragrance. The aftertaste is sweet, with hints of almond nuttiness. Overall, it's mild, with sweetness and gentle acidity suitable for friends trying lightly roasted beans for the first time.

FrontStreet Coffee Washed Sidamo G1 Flavor Notes: Lemon fragrance with sweet citrus, plum, roasted cocoa, smooth mouthfeel, rich sweetness.

How did FrontStreet Coffee's "Flower Champion" get its name?

In 2017, Ethiopia's DW green coffee company sent their coffee beans to the Taste of Harvest (TOH) competition hosted by the African Fine Coffee Association. The natural processed batch won the TOH Ethiopia championship. This batch of green beans was named "Flower Champion" in honor of its championship status.

Flower Champion is located in Hambella. Hambella is in Ethiopia's largest coffee producing region, Guji Zone, administratively belonging to Oromia Regional State. Hambella's west faces Yirgacheffe's Kochore across mountains, while its southeast, east, and north border Guji's Shakisso, Uraga, and Kercha sub-regions respectively. It is Ethiopia's highest altitude coffee sub-region (Harrar is Ethiopia's highest altitude main region).
