Queen 2017

As Luckin Coffee gradually emerges from the shadow of its financial crisis, the company has begun a new round of strategic development, this time focusing on the premium coffee bean Queen 5.0.

Since the Queen coffee beans were heavily launched in 2017, subsequent years have seen them named as Queen X.0 in chronological order. For example, the 2018 Queen coffee beans were called "Queen 2.0." Until this year, the 2021 Queen coffee beans are called "Queen 5.0," and Luckin's一次性订走了90吨花魁咖啡豆正是5.0系列.

Queen 5

Importing such a large quantity of Queen 5.0 coffee beans, Luckin will launch Queen SOE coffee, and it appears that even this massive amount of Queen 5.0 is still in short supply across Luckin's nationwide stores, with phenomena like Queen SOE selling out, leaving only Yirgacheffe SOE available.

The purchasing head further stated that they hope to launch the Queen PLUS series SOE in the second half of 2022, at which time the Queen PLUS green bean procurement volume will exceed 250 tons.

According to previous patterns, the new 2022 production season Queen will be named "Queen 6.0," with the first batch already shipped by air, expected to hit the market around early April. FrontStreet Coffee also expects to launch "Queen 6.0" in April.

It is reported that this Queen PLUS is not the new 2022 production season Queen 6.0 coffee beans, but another natural-processed Ethiopia native variety coffee bean also from the Sidamo Buku Abel processing plant. A domestic green bean seller named this coffee bean "Queen Queen," with the green bean data reading Ethiopia Hambella Buku Abel Queen Plus G1 Natural (Ethiopia Sidamo Hambella G1 Natural).

The Rise of Queen Coffee

Below is a brief introduction to the Queen coffee bean. Queen became famous for two main reasons: first, it won the TOH natural process championship in 2017; second, Li Jianfei used this natural Queen coffee to win the World Brewers Cup China regional championship. Then Queen's popularity continued to increase, and FrontStreet Coffee can even say it ranks at the top of the premium coffee list. This Queen broke the legend of Geisha and became a coffee that could compete with Geisha coffee.

Additionally, because the name Geisha is the same as "Geisha" in Japanese, to make a name for this coffee bean, it was named "Queen," meaning the head of geishas.

Ethiopian Native Varieties

Furthermore, most of these Queen coffee varieties are Ethiopian local native varieties. Some friends might not fully understand what Ethiopian native varieties are. FrontStreet Coffee will give a brief introduction below. Because Ethiopia is the homeland of coffee, Ethiopia can be considered the gene bank of coffee, with very numerous coffee varieties. Coupled with Ethiopia's local economic conditions not supporting large-scale verification of coffee varieties. On the other hand, the Ethiopian government, to protect native coffee tree species data, is also unwilling to disclose information, so these unknown coffee varieties are called Ethiopian local native varieties.

Cupping Notes Across Queen Versions

However, FrontStreet Coffee has also cupped several of these Queen varieties and found that Queen 3.1 differs significantly from the original Queen flavor, instead being closer to the flavor of Panama La Esmeralda's Geisha. Queen 4.0's flavor is very close to the original Queen flavor, but through cupping, FrontStreet Coffee still feels the aftertaste and body are not as good as the original Queen. Queen 5.0 coffee leans more toward the Guji region coffee bean flavor, with lively berry acidity, long floral notes, and distinct juiciness.
