The fame of Blue Mountain No. 1 coffee is such that even those who don't drink coffee have heard of it. Blue Mountain coffee, long known for its premium price, has undergone adjustments over the past decade or so.
Today, everyone can easily enjoy a cup of authentic Blue Mountain No. 1 coffee. FrontStreet Coffee's physical stores sell authentic Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee at 60 yuan per 195ml. If you buy coffee beans to brew yourself, each cup (15g coffee grounds brewed with 225g hot water) costs only about 25 yuan, making it extremely cost-effective.
Origin and Certification of FrontStreet Coffee's Blue Mountain No. 1
The Blue Mountain No. 1 coffee beans sold by FrontStreet Coffee come from Clifton Manor Estate, the oldest coffee cultivation area on the Jamaican Blue Mountain range. This estate is also the only coffee estate in the entire Blue Mountain region to receive Rainforest Alliance (RA) certification. Farms that meet the standards established by the Rainforest Alliance have their surrounding ecosystems protected, face restrictions on pesticide use, and are evaluated on waste management benchmarks. Only coffee that passes these evaluations and receives certification can be called "Rainforest Alliance Certified Coffee."
Coffee estates that receive this certification will print the green tree frog logo on the packaging of exported coffee beans. According to Jamaican government regulations, all exported Blue Mountain coffee beans must be packed in wooden barrels. To help consumers identify whether their purchased Blue Mountain coffee is authentic, the Jamaican Coffee Industry Board can issue certificates for all exported Blue Mountain coffee.
There are three types of certificates:
(1) Quality Certificate issued by the Jamaican Coffee Industry Board
(2) Authorized Sales Certificate issued by Blue Mountain coffee manufacturers (Blue Mountain coffee is distributed by 4 Jamaican government-licensed processors and exported by 16 licensed exporters)
(3) Certificate of Origin for Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee
Quality certificates indicate time and quantity. The Jamaican Coffee Industry Board randomly selects a package from submitted Blue Mountain coffee for inspection. If it meets Blue Mountain coffee standards, a certificate is issued. At FrontStreet Coffee's physical stores, you can see the certification certificate issued by Clifton Manor Estate and the Blue Mountain coffee wooden barrels featuring the green tree frog logo.
How Are Blue Mountain No. 1 Coffee Beans Roasted?
The Blue Mountain No. 1 coffee variety is Typica, the oldest and cleanest-tasting variety in the Arabica coffee family, characterized by its clean flavor profile and subtle, balanced taste.
The reason so many generations of coffee enthusiasts have been fascinated by Blue Mountain coffee is primarily because this coffee bean, when dark roasted, exhibits an extremely balanced and rich coffee flavor that tastes remarkably smooth and can provide a sense of comfort and reassurance.
FrontStreet Coffee hopes that while their Blue Mountain No. 1 coffee beans maintain the balanced and rich coffee flavor, they can further enrich the taste experience. Therefore, FrontStreet Coffee does not roast too deeply but removes the beans before the second crack, preserving a small amount of the coffee beans' excellent acidity. To ensure everyone can enjoy the most complete coffee flavor, FrontStreet Coffee ships all beans within 5 days of roasting, guaranteeing that all sold coffee beans are 100% freshly roasted.
Through cupping and comparison at FrontStreet Coffee, medium-dark roasted Blue Mountain No. 1 coffee beans exhibit a balance of sweet, sour, and bitter notes, with delicate fruit acidity, rich dark chocolate body, and caramel-like sweetness.
How to Brew Blue Mountain No. 1 Coffee Beans for the Best Taste?
Medium-dark roasted beans generally have higher moisture loss rates, making them lighter in weight. During brewing, the grounds don't completely settle at the bottom. Water is immediately absorbed when first poured, and due to vigorous degassing, bubbles form around the grounds, creating channels. These channels persist longer with fresher beans, causing the water level to drop quickly. I generally use a coarse water flow and slowly circle around.
Dripper: KONO
Water Temperature: 88°C
Grind Size: Medium-coarse grind (70% retention rate on China No. 20 standard sieve)
Coffee Amount: 15g
Coffee-to-Water Ratio: 1:15
Segmented Pouring: Use twice the weight of the coffee grounds in water to moisten the coffee bed, forming a dome for a 30-second bloom. Then, using a small water flow, pour in circles from inside to out to 125g, wait until the coffee bed drops to half the dripper's height, then continue with the same fine water flow to add the third segment to 225g. Remove the dripper once all the coffee liquid has filtered through, which should take about 2 minutes. Finally, swirl the coffee in the server to mix evenly before enjoying~
When FrontStreet Coffee brews Blue Mountain No. 1 coffee beans, during the bloom stage, you can already smell caramel aroma. When tasting, you'll experience rich nutty and dark chocolate flavors, with an overall full body and a sweet, clean aftertaste.
