South America is rich in coffee beans, and Bolivia is no exception. Some regions of Bolivia benefit from unique tropical rainforest environments that provide excellent natural conditions for growing organic coffee. Bolivian coffee offers rich and distinctive aromas—whether from the ground beans or the brewed coffee, the fragrance is notably intense, reminiscent of a blend of floral and fruity notes that leaves a lasting impression.
Brewing Method
Pour-over Bolivian coffee: Using 15g of coffee grounds with medium grind (small Fuji ghost tooth burr grinder setting 4), V60 dripper, water temperature of 88-89°C. First pour 30g of water and let it bloom for 27 seconds. Continue pouring to 105g, then pause. Wait until the water level in the coffee bed drops to about halfway, then slowly continue pouring until reaching 225g total. Avoid the tail end. Water-to-coffee ratio of 1:15, total extraction time of 2:00.
Quality Evolution
Previously, most Bolivian coffee was of average quality, but in recent years, specialty coffee production has developed rapidly, with many excellent beans emerging. The Cup of Excellence (COE) system, first implemented in Brazil, has gradually gained popularity, and Bolivia has also adopted this system. This not only inspires enthusiasm among coffee farmers but also aims to improve coffee quality. COE beans, whether in their green state or when roasted and brewed, are superior to regular coffee.
Advantages and History
Bolivian coffee's advantages lie in its high altitude and excellent coffee varieties. Traditional Typica and small amounts of Caturra grown here are highly regarded in world markets. In the past, Bolivian coffee trees were often planted around gardens as hedges, serving decorative purposes. True commercial production only began in the early 1950s. The great frost of 1957 severely damaged Brazil's coffee industry, while Bolivia benefited and developed rapidly. Bolivian coffee is grown at altitudes between 180-670 meters, with washed Arabica beans exported to Germany and Sweden. Their flavor, while not among today's best, carries a slight bitterness.
Flavor Profile
The aroma presents roasted nuts and almonds, while the palate reveals smooth fruit acidity of orange and pomelo. Overall, it offers sweet caramel with the smooth texture of nut milk, demonstrating remarkable cleanliness and balance. The herbal aftertaste is quite captivating as well.

The overall flavor of Bolivian coffee is rich and balanced. Beyond the pleasant acidity, there are subtle chocolate notes, and the smooth texture provides a seamless mouthfeel. In contrast, the bitterness is not prominent. The coffee has an excellent aftertaste—after drinking, the sweet flavor lingers in the mouth, making this coffee experience unforgettable.
