From the Championship-Winning Region of B.O.P!
Panama coffee originated in 1780 when European immigrants introduced the first Typica varieties. Located in Central America, it possesses natural advantages of sunshine, fertile land, and high mountains, combined with an ample labor force, making this region an excellent area for cultivating high-quality specialty coffee—it is truly a paradise for nurturing coffee. In particular, Geisha varieties from Panama have led the global trend of specialty coffee, successfully attracting worldwide market interest in Panamanian coffee.
The Boquete region is Panama's oldest and most famous coffee-producing area, located on the eastern side of Baru Volcano, at an average altitude of approximately 1000-2000 meters. The "Baru Volcano National Park" serves as an ecological conservation area with extremely rich biodiversity, featuring multiple microclimates. Coupled with year-round mist coverage and abundant rainfall, this creates excellent local cultivation conditions, giving Boquete coffee unique aromatics and making it Panama's most productive and highest-quality coffee region.
During each harvest season, coffee farmers use the refined washed method and sun-drying process, resulting in full-bodied green beans with pure flavors.
The Baru Volcano Advantage
Baru Volcano is not only Panama's highest mountain range, but early volcanic activity and eruptions deposited vast quantities of extremely fertile soil. This soil is rich in nutrients, particularly phosphorus and sulfur from volcanic ash. Mixed with clay and combined with unique climate patterns, this region forms an environment perfect for growing premium coffee. Dense forests and numerous species create overall biodiversity.
Approximately 50 coffee farmers here form a small cooperative, all using traditional Boquete methods to produce coffee—allowing coffee to grow in a near-natural environment. Although production volume is not high, this maintains a rich ecological environment and preserves or even improves soil quality. Natural cultivation methods not only benefit the environment but, because coffee cherries grow slowly, produce higher-quality, exceptionally flavorful coffee beans.
Farmers hand-harvest complete coffee cherries and send them to the nearby Cafe de Eleta S.A. for processing. The processing facility is located about 4 kilometers from the farms and includes a modern laboratory for cupping quality control and manual selection.
